Gina Carano deserves an immediate title shot against Ronda Rousey, but not the woman who retired her out of MMA?

Editorial By Syl Peterkin, RCM Correspondent

New York, NY (AprĀ 12, 2014)– Gina Carano was a subject of a press conference involving UFC President Dana White along with UFC Female Bantamweight Champ Ronda Rousey.Ā  This came about at a media luncheon for UFC 173 in Los Angeles.Ā  Rousey believes that Carano deserves a shot at the belt.Ā  This is if you define a shot at the belt as being not having fought since being tko’d by Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino in 2009.Ā  In fact, Gina Carano hasn’t won a fight in almost 6 years. Rousey stated that Carano is a pioneer of womens MMA, and a legend.Ā  Carano according to Rousey is “the reason I fight at all. You can’t say she’s just coming in off the street. How can you say no to the woman that I owe everything to? I would bend over backwards to fight her. I’m not going to make her run through the gauntlet to fight me. I would show up at her house if that’s where she wanted to fight.”

This seems strange considering that Cristiane Justino had been fighting a year before Carano, beat Carano, and has been undefeated since November 2005 (almost 9 years).Ā  So who is the pioneer and legend? Carano or Justino? Rousey and Dana White as previously noted in Real Combat Media seem to be actively ducking Justino.Ā  Why would it seem reasonable for Carano to have an immediate shot at the title, but Justino has to sign a 7 fight contract? It all comes down to money.Ā  Well MMA fans, continue enjoy your stay at the world that boxing fans are obviously used to! Avoiding fighters who have a strong possibility of winning and fighting close to sure wins!Ā  Dana White stated that the UFC makes big fights happen. For the most part this is true, but there have been times that the biggest fights don’t occur.Ā Ā  Cyborg-Rousey may happen, but this delay benefits only Rousey, the UFC, and Dana White.
