George Zimmerman versus Kanye West Coming Soon? The Insanity of Celebrity Boxing

Come one, come all. Taking on all comers. The recent acquitted George Zimmerman wants to fight a charity boxing match. Over 8000 wannabes have applied for the free opportunity and unique privilege to beat Zimmerman’s face in, on March 1, 2014. Celebrity boxing promoter Damon Feldman is organizing the event.
Zimmerman, 30, was found innocent of second degree murder and manslaughter by a Florida jury on July 13, 2013, in the shooting death of African American high school student Trayvon Martin on February 26, 2012. Zimmerman’s mother is Peruvian and she has an African-Peruvian grandfather.
Yesterday Zimmerman called out Kanye West and attacked his character, stating West attacks defenseless people. George Zimmerman is not Rocky Balboa, and Kanye West, a hip hop recording artist, is not Thunderlips Hulk Hogan. Does the American public really get its jollies wondering who is going to fight Zimmerman in the ring? Zimmerman doesn’t win the popularity contest, but whoever gets in the ring with Zimmerman will, is he can give Zimmerman a good work over for free as well as everybody else.
Boxing has reached the high point on insanity, but if Zimmerman is allowed to fight West on public television in what would amount to a racial grudge match of sorts, it sends society the wrong kind of message. Zimmerman is not going to redeem himself in the eyes of the American public or anybody else by fighting Kanye West. What Zimmerman’s motivation is for the publicity stunt nobody knows. If Pay-Per-View broadcasts Zimmerman boxing whoever, our society will have gone mad.
