Mayweather vs. Matt Floyd: Misfits Champion to Fight Floyd Mayweather in Bangkok on December 19th

By Real Combat Media Boxing Editorial Staff

Bangkok, Thailand, (December 19th, 2026)–Floyd Mayweather says he is coming back to the ring, and Misfits Boxing light heavyweight champion Matt “The Jedi” Floyd is the man standing across from him. Mayweather announced on social media Sunday that he will face the Australian in an exhibition on December 19th in Bangkok, Thailand. The event is billed as “The GOAT vs. The Jedi” and “Battle of the Floyds.” Mayweather framed it as a warm-up for a possible fight with WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia, calling it “a lil tune up before me and Ryan Garcia lock up.”

Who Is Matt Floyd?

Floyd is a 37-year-old Australian light heavyweight with a reported professional record of 15-2, built against low-level opposition since his debut in 2021. He won the Misfits Boxing light heavyweight title in June 2026 after a chaotic night in Manchester, England against Anthony Taylor. Taylor attacked Floyd after the bout was first ruled a no contest, and the outcome was later reported as a controversial disqualification win for Floyd.

Outside of Misfits, Floyd lost a unanimous decision to former super middleweight world champion James DeGale in a Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship bout in September 2025. Floyd and Mayweather also share a common opponent in Shane Mosley, whom Floyd met in an exhibition.

Mayweather’s Return and the Ryan Garcia Plan

Mayweather is 49 years old, retired in 2017 with a perfect 50-0 record after beating Conor McGregor, and has stayed active only on the exhibition circuit. His last time in the ring was an eight-round exhibition rematch with John Gotti III in August 2024 that ended with no winner declared.

Garcia claimed last month that he and Mayweather had agreed to a sanctioned professional fight for his WBC title, which would put Mayweather’s unbeaten record on the line. Uncrowned reported that talk of an agreement was premature and that no serious discussions had taken place. Garcia then told Mayweather on Friday that he is fighting on February 6th regardless, and his camp is reportedly working toward a unification fight with Teofimo Lopez.

A Fight Worth Watching Closely Before Believing

Mayweather has announced several fights this year that never happened. A planned exhibition with Mike Zambidis in June was derailed by a federal lawsuit from CSI Entertainment, which claims to own the exclusive rights to his next two fights, against Mike Tyson and then Manny Pacquiao or another opponent of its choosing. Talk of a Tyson exhibition and a Pacquiao rematch has also dragged on without a signed fight. Uncrowned noted that the CSI case is a likely roadblock for the Floyd exhibition as well.

For now, the facts are limited to Mayweather’s own announcement. Early reports did not list a venue, broadcast partner or round count for the Bangkok event. Real Combat Media will update this story as more details are confirmed.
