Salt Lake City, Utah (May 7th, 2023)– For the second time in less than a year, a comeback attempt by former World Boxing Organisation World Super Lightweight champion DeMarcus ‘Chop Chop’ Corley has fallen short. Corley, age 48, who held the WBO World Super Lightweight title between 2001 to 2003, reached 28-1-1 before losing the title by decision to 28-1 Zab Judah, subsequently lost a WBC super lightweight eliminator by 12 round decision to 31-0 Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2004, and was unsuccessful in 2005 in an attempt to regain the WBO World Super Lightweight title against 22-0 Miguel Cotto. An attempt to win the vacant World Boxing Council World Super Lightweight title against 33-1-2 Junior Witter in 2007 fell short by 12 round decision as well.

It would seem the number 28 figured prominently in Chop Chop Corley’s comeback attempt. Corley has been fighting for 28 years, has 28 professional knockouts in the ring, and lost to an opponent aged 28.

Corley, 52-35-1 with 28 knockouts, Las Vegas, Nevada, who began his 89 bout career in 1995 28 years ago, weighing 145 pounds, lost a majority six round decision to rising 8-0 Clinton, Utah welterweight prospect Jon Taylor, age 28, on Friday, May 5, 2023, by scores of 60-54 and 59-55 for Taylor, and 57-57 draw, in the main event of a six bout prospects card at 801 Events Center, Salt Lake City, Utah. Unbeaten Kaysville, Utah super bantamweight prospect Michael Rutland was upset by debuting Keithon Turner by second round stoppage on the undercard.
