Remembering Ukrainian Amateur Champion Oleg Prudkyi, Killed in War at Age 30

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Former two-time Ukrainian amateur super lightweight champion Oleg Prudkyi, a member of the Cherkasy Special Forces, was killed with three other special forces police on May 22, 2022, in battle in Ukraine, as reported by the Ukrainian Sports Federation. Prudkyi was 30 years old. As part of Real Combat Media Historical Boxing, we remember those boxers and athletes, champions and competitors, who have fallen in the current conflict in Europe on both sides. In war and conflict there are no winners with the loss of even a single human life.

Prudkyi, a native of Cherkasy, Ukraine, fighting as an amateur and semi-professional between 2010 and 2015, compiled a record of 18-14 with three knockouts. Prudkyi never turned pro, and competed as an amateur and in semi-pro competitions. He was a two-time national amateur champion in Ukraine, and fought on the Ukrainian Otamans team to compete in the World Series of Boxing semi-pro competition. Prudkyi was working in the military of his local region of Cherkasy as part of the special forces to defend Ukraine during the Russian Special Forces operation in his country which remains ongoing.

Statement by Prudyi’s widow: “War….. it takes away the best. I don’t believe, I don’t believe that you are no more. You were like a bright sun (to our family), an example for your children, who adore you so much, and ask for you every time (day), and when dad comes (will come home).”

Statement of Cherkasy Police announcing the death of their officers, including Prudkyi: “They (our four officers) defended Ukraine. (They are) the dead police heroes of Cherkasy region. On May 22, 2022, defending the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, our colleagues, police officers of the Special Operations Department of the KORD Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police, were killed. There are no words to convey the pain (and) the despair over the (our) irreparable loss. We bow our heads and bow low to their parents. In our memory, they will remain honest and principled people, good friends and reliable colleagues. We express our deepest condolences to their relatives and friends. We remember (you and) we miss you. Bright memory
