Former Cincinnati Bengals Wide Receiver Chad Ochocinco, 43, to Make Pro Debut on the Mayweather vs. Paul Card

Miami, FL (May 4th, 2021)– Move over Tyson Fury! Retired Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco Johnson, age 43, an enthusiastic boxing gym participant where he trains regularly, has decided to make his professional boxing debut on the Floyd Mayweather Jr. undercard at the Hard Rock in Miami, Florida. Floyd will fight an exhibition against Logan Paul in the main event.
Ochocinco broke the news on an I AM ATHLETE podcast. Not calling himself by the nickname “Sweet Feet” Johnson, a possible opponent mentioned for Ochocinco for his exhibition debut is television sports personality and former NFL wide receiver Brandon Marshall, a veteran of the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, New York Jets, New York Giants, Seattle Seahawks, and Miami Dolphins. Marshall has also trained in the boxing gym for years, including training with former world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield.
Given the current pandemic, everybody, it seems, is getting into the boxing act. First it was Iron Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr., then Floyd, and Chad Ochocinco. It represents an oddball Jones way of earning a pay-per-view buck, but during the pandemic, it’s anything goes in terms of live sports, spectators or no spectators. So long as the public wants to view the participants, even if the matchups are good, bad or ugly, boxing will continue. Most certainly, in this reporter’s viewpoint, the hype is good publicity. However, Ochocinco versus Marshall or whoever else is not necessarily good boxing. Well, Denver Broncos NFL star Lyle Alzado boxed ten rounds with Muhammad Ali on NBC sports several decades ago. Alzado did, so Ochocinco can do it, as America is a free country. As Jack Dempsey would say, this isn’t boxing. It all depends on your viewpoint. Order your Doordash pizza to go, and watch Floyd put on another exhibition show.
