Twilight Zone! Iron Mike Tyson Says He is Fighting Lennox Lewis in September 2021

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Las Vegas, NV (April 28th, 2021)– In yet another boxing twister of a development in terms of who is next and what is coming, former World Heavyweight champion “Iron” Mike Tyson, unable to come to terms with former World Heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield for a rematch in Miami, Florida, has told TMZ Sports in Los Angeles he will be fighting former World Heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis in a rematch in September 2021. The claim, if true, constitutes another boxing shockwave during the pandemic sure to light the fire to keep the sport of boxing alive in 2021, at least in the media.

Not everyone agrees with the motives of Tyson’s Legends group in Mike staging more comebacks after many years of retirement. Tyson, age 54, 50-6 with 44 knockouts, Henderson, Nevada, and Lewis, age 55, 41-2 with 32 knockouts, London, United Kingdom, last fought at The Pyramid in Memphis, Tennessee, on June 8, 2002, with Lewis pushing Tyson to the canvas where he was counted out at 2:25 of the eighth round.

Tyson versus Lewis II in 2021 would be a pay-per-view box office extravaganza which could put Tyson Fury versus Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder II, or Dillian Whyte to shame in terms of the media hysteria leading up to the bout, be it real or exhibition.

Tyson versus Lewis could certainly be sold to the public. Tyson, who said before his first meeting with Lewis he would eat the children of Lewis, ate a great deal of glove leather from Lewis instead. Given his recent exhibition draw with Roy Jones Jr., Tyson will have to do better than he did versus Jones by taking his boxing performance up one notch. Fighters like Lewis and Holyfield, if and when they show up, are not making social calls inside the ring, Tyson be so advised. The money is there, but Tyson would be a fool not to be prepared at the championship level for Lewis or Holyfield, or the bout, real or exhibition, will not last very long.
