MAIN EVENT

TONY BELLEW v BJ FLORES (WBC World Cruiserweight Championship)

Liverpool, UK (16th of October 2016)– In a cauldron of noise and partisan hostility the much anticipated showdown between two confident and fiery characters commenced.  Coming into the fight both camps were adamant their men had the tools for victory. Bellew the more vocal of the two in fight week breathing fire in his interviews. BJ Flores remained composed but looked agitated at the weigh in. It’s fair to say this has been an eagerly anticipated brawl in the boxing mad city of Liverpool.

First round was a tense affair, you could sense the anticipation, it was as if the crowd knew what was coming, and low and behold it did! Rounds two and three had it all, low blows, thunderous exchanges, controversy, body and head shots raining in. Bellew proved to be to powerful to hard hitting for Flores, but take nothing away from BJ he shied heart and didn’t cave after he was put down once, twice, three times. The final knock down proved too high a mountain for Flores to climb and the fight was over. Bellew moves to (28-2, 18 KOs)

The aftermath of the fight will be well documented, a pumped up Bellew lashing abuse at David Haye as he looked on in shock, I sense a mega fight brewing…….

CO MAIN FEATURE

Luke Campbell v Derry Mathews (WBC Silver Lightweight Championship)

Popular Derry Matthews returns to his home territory to battle a young prospect with a lot to prove. Stylistically this bout has people excited and tuned in to the outcome. Campbell  comes in as favourite by the experience and ring intelligence of Matthews makes this intriguing. The crowd is very pro Matthews and the question is will this effect the young champion.

The first couple of rounds were very tentative with neither fighter able to establish their jab or dominant the centre of the ring. A few big shots thrown but neither fighter willing to over commit. Matthews went down from a flash counter in the third but wasn’t hurt. The fourth round however was explosive. Derry went down from a brutal body and showed a warrior spirit to even beat the count. The writing was on the wall but even then serious leather was exchanged as Derry tried to fight back. Another big body shot and the fight is over in the fourth .  Derry visibly upset but it’s the big stage and these things can happen, an exciting conclusion to a much anticipated bout. Campbell moves to (15-1, 12 KOS)
