Battle of Titans! Matchmaker Extraordinaire Carlos Llinas Brings it to Royal Oak Tonight

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Detroit, Michigan (February 13, 2016)– A veteran of more than 50 Detroit area boxing shows, matchmaker extraordinaire Carlos Llinas of C.L.I.P. Promotions, together with promoter Greg Ahrens of ahRENS Promotions will present Battle of the Titans tonight, a card of young boxing prospects on Saturday evening, February 13, 2016 at the Royal Oak Theatre in Royal Oak, Michigan. A ten bout card of pro boxing, featuring a slate of young and exciting unbeaten prospects in four round prospects bouts, will be presented in a showcase card of new boxing talent.

In the main event, super featherweight prospect Mohamed ‘The Hawk’ Adam of Dearborn, Michigan, 4-0 with three knockouts, is favored by four round unanimous decision over Carl Currie of Posen, Illinois. If Adam does really well, a stoppage is also possible. Adams had over 80 amateur bouts and was ranked second in the United States in the National Golden Gloves.

Rising Detroit middleweight prospect Winfred Harris Jr., 1-0 with one knockout, will face 2-14-1 journeyman Antoine Elerson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Despite his record, Elerson has gone the distance in his last four outings, including earning a six round draw last November against 5-2-3 Brian Tovar is a USA Wisconsin State Welterweight title bout. Harris is favored to win by knockout, as Elerson normally fights between 145 and 152 pounds, and the 160 pound middleweight division is above his normal fight weight.

Rising cruiserweight prospect Clarence Dubose of East Pointe, Michigan, 1-0 with one knockout, will face 1-2 David Mbah of Battle Creek, Michigan, a 1-2 heavyweight who normally fights between 209 and 222 pounds. Dubose is favored to win by stoppage in the third or fourth round. Mbah weighed in at 194.4 pounds for this bout to make weight.

Rising super welterweight prospect John Chaleck, 2-0 with two knockouts, Howell, Michigan, is favored to win over debuting Dean Walsh of Monroe, Michigan. However, the bout could be a tossup. Nothing is known about unknown Walsh-except he is showing up.

Heavyweight Ross Pokryfry of Detroit, Michigan, 0-1, having lost a close majority four round decision at the Royal Oak Theatre last month, will return looking for his first win against debuting Cassius Anderson of Toledo, Ohio. Pokryfry, his strange name spelling notwithstanding, is favored to win by decision. The bout could be a barnstormer. Nothing is known about Anderson, and this Cassius could be the next Cassius Clay. Who knows?

In a ‘somebody has to win’ late added attraction, 14-4 heavyweight Scott Conner, 41 years old, South Bend, Indiana, is favored to win by four round decision over Detroit veteran Ruben ‘Hollywood’ Williams, 29-27-1 with 16 knockouts, 39 years old. Somebody will bring it to the table. Williams was a noted super middleweight who drew for the vacant IBA World Super Middleweight title over 12 rounds 2007, but after losing to super middleweight contenders Allen Green and Andre Ward in 2008, never performed as well after he then went up in weight class to light heavyweight, cruiserweight and heavyweight.

Undefeated light heavyweight 8-0 Anthony Simms of Plainfield, Indiana, will face 2-8 club fighter Eric Moon of Hazel Park, Michigan. Simms is favored to win by knockout or stoppage in rounds one or two. Simms has seven knockouts in eight bouts, with all knockouts coming in two rounds or less. Like the late Edwin Valero, Simms, promoter Illinas will soon learn, is worthy of better opposition at the next level at this point.

Undefeated Jersey City, New Jersey light heavyweight Joe Louis Jones, managed by noted Joe Quiambo, 4-0 with three knockouts, is favored to win by first round knockout over 0-2 club fighter Michael Shipp of Little Lake, Michigan. If the bout made to the second round, this reporter would be surprised.

Undefeated super middleweight prospect DeAndre Ware, 2-0 with two knockouts, Toledo, Ohio, faces debuting Brian Jackson of Detroit, Michigan. No prediction here, but consensus says the Detroit fighter will be ready for the challenge. Toledo and Detroit, it should be pointed out, have a long history of not liking each other, so these matchups sell tickets, and offer both towns the chance to keep the classic area rivalry going.

Finally, super lightweight prospect Christopher Johnson, 0-1, South Bend, Indiana, who lost a majority four round draw in Baltimore in April 2014, tries his luck again and is favored to win by decision over debuting Alden Wattley, Toledo, Ohio. This is a pot luck bout. Anybody can win, though the cards will favor the Michigan fighters in Michigan.

Doors for Royal Oak Music Theatre’s boxing event on Saturday evening, February 13, 2016, will open at 7 P.M., first bout at 7:30 P.M. Royal Pak Music Theatre is located 318 West 4th Street in Royal Oak, Michigan. For more information and ticket availability, call Royal Oak Music Theatre at 248-399-2980.
