Aljamain Sterling & Alistair Overeem re-sign with the UFC

Las Vegas, NV (February 15th, 2016)– Aljamain Sterling has re-signed with the UFC, he announced Monday on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani.
It was Sterling’s desire to fight out his contract with the UFC and test his value on the open market. He did so in December and ended up back with the promotion he has competed in since 2014.
“I’m 100 percent happy with my decision,” Sterling said. “I think I got a better deal for myself than I would have had.
“I was a little bit uneasy about it at first. I just wasn’t sure exactly what was gonna happen, because you never know where you’re going to end up.”
Sterling (12-0) is one of the top bantamweights in the world and, at just 26 years old, has a high ceiling. The Long Island, N.Y., native trains at Serra-Longo with the likes of Chris Weidman and Al Iaquinta.
Sterling has won all four of his fights in the UFC, including the last three via finish. He stopped ranked bantamweights Takeya Mizugaki and Johnny Eduardo last year.
“We’ll see who’s going to be the opponent to get strangled next,” Sterling said.
The UFC has also signed Alistair Overeem (40-14, 1 NC) was actually in danger of being cut after a dreadful 1-3 span — in which all three losses came by way of knockout — from 2013-14. Since then, “Demolition Man” captured three straight, including a technical knockout win over former heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos last December.
Overeem will be in the UFC title contender mix in 2016. His next opponent has not been announced at this time.
