Butte, Montana (January, 24th, 2016)– After 29 years, the career of 126 bout veteran Luis Ramon ‘Yori Boy’ Campas came to an end last night in the main event of a seven bout card at the Civic Center in Butte, Montana.

For five rounds, the super middleweight bout was interesting and highly competitive, but at some point Campas began to turn the tide in the bout, moving ahead on the scorecards before the sudden conclusion of the contest. Super middleweight opponent Anthony Bonsante won the first and third rounds, while Campas won the second and fourth rounds, slugging it out in good fashion. In the fourth round, Campas landed a right hand which cut the left eye of Bonsante.

In the fifth round, Campas knocked down Bonsante.  Afterwards, Bonsante lost points for holding in rounds five and six, giving Campas 10-7 and 1-8 rounds, respectively. Bonsante,

Getting outboxed in the seventh round (meaning he could no longer win the bout on the cards) frustrated, deadlifted Campas by the waist and feet into the air, and then threw him down. Campas’ trainer entered the ring and signaled his fighter had a leg injury from the body slam and could not continue. Bonsante was then disqualified, ending the bizarre bout.

Campas, age 44, a Mexican residing in Montana who turned pro in 1987, opened his career with a 56-0 start, and finishes his distinguished 29 year career at 106-17-3 with 81 knockouts, with some hall of famous possibility. He held the IBF and IBA World super middleweight titles. Bonsante, age 45, Shakopee, Minnesota, who turned pro in 1996, finishes his career at 34-13-3 with 18 knockouts. Campas and Bonsante, ironically, were the only two pro boxers to defeat Texas legend Tony ‘El Torito’ Ayala Jr, during their careers.
