Cincinnati, Ohio (September 30th, 2015)–  Adrien “The Problem” Broner (30-2-22 KOs), also known as “AB”…you know…”About Billions, Always Ballin’, Athletic Bastard”, will return to the ring Saturday October 3rd to face off against the #5 WBA ranked Khabib Allakhverdiev (19-1-9 KOs) at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, OH on Showtime Championship Boxing (10pm ET) for the WBA “regular” light welterweight title.

Broner, who is the WBA #2 ranked, is coming off a defeat to “Showtime” Shawn Porter, losing a 12 round unanimous decision this summer in Las Vegas, NV.  In that fight with Porter, Broner didn’t look like his old self.  He wasn’t aggressive as the old “AB” and spent most the time moving and clinching.  He was also relying on the check left hook too much.  For some reason Broner looked off in that fight.  When he utilizes his tools, he is almost impossible to beat!  The boy has skills!!  Unfortunately he waited until the final round against Porter to show it. I hope this trip back home in front of the Cincinnati fans will bring back the old “AB”.

As for Allakhverdiev he is coming off of his only loss to Jesse Vargas by a 12 round unanimous decision in April 2014. His best win came against the undefeated Joan Guzman in 2012.  Add that on to the almost 2 year inactivity and one would wonder why he is even getting a shot at the title.  They say styles makes fights and Allakhverdiev’s style is something that Broner needs to get back on track to looking good!

I don’t know.. maybe the WBA should’ve picked someone higher ranked like #3 ranked Amir Iman instead of the #5 ranked Allakhverdiev.  That matchup would’ve made more sense to me.  Iman is a much more dangerous opponent than Allakhverdiev.  Hell Iman is a dangerous opponent for anyone in the division.  I’m just saying ..it makes more sense!!!  However the fight is here and on Saturday night we shall see.

The undercard of this bout will show the co-feature of Jose Pedraza (20-0, 12 KOs) making his first junior lightweight title defense against Edner Cherry (34-6-2, 19 KOs).  Lightweight prospects Robert Easter Jr. and Jamel Herring, a 2012 U.S. Olympian, will both be featured in separate 10-round bouts on Showtime Extreme (8pm ET).  Easter (15-0, 12 KOs), 24, of Cincinnati, will face former lightweight titlist Miguel Acosta (29-8-2, 23 KOs), 37, of Venezuela, who has lost four fights in a row and five of his last six. Herring (13-0, 8 KOs), 29, of Coram, New York, will face Yakubu Amidu (19-7-2, 19 KOs), 30, a native of Ghana fighting out of Los Angeles, who has dropped three fights in a row.

The referee for the Broner/Allakhverdiev title bout will be veteran 3rd man, Havery Dock and the ringside officials will be George Hill, Larry Hazzard Jr. and Gary Merrit.  All 3 judges hail from the United States.
