Wlodarczyk Defeats Fragomeni in Third War to Retain WBC Cruiserweight Title

By Robert Brizel, Head RCM Boxing Correspondent

Chicago, IL (December 7th, 2013)– Krzysztof Wlodarczyk of Poland and Giocobbe Fragomeni of Italy have gone to war three times for the World Boxing Council World Cruiserweight title. In the main event at UIC Pavillion in Chicago, Illinois, on Friday evening, December 6. 2013, Wlodarczyk won their third and final confrontation by sixth round stoppage when a cut under the left eye of Fragomeni forced the stoppage of the contest.

Wlodarczyk, 32 years old, now 49-2-1 with 35 knockouts, has figured into ten International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Council world cruiserweight title bouts. Woldarczyk dropped Fragomeni in the ninth round of their first WBC world title bout in Lazio, Italy, in May 2009, but Fraogmeni retained the WBC title on a 12 round draw. Wlodarczyk won the 12 round rematch in Poland in May 2010. So the stage was set for the rubber match between the two champions.

Fragomeni, age 44, now 31-4-2 with 12 knockouts, Milan, Italy, has slowed down due his age. Despite training hard, Wlodarczyk found Fragomeni a more available target to hit than in years past. Left hand power shots broke down Fragomeni’s defenses, and jab combinations cut his face apart. A powerful left hook dropped Fragomeni near the end of round four, who barely beat the count and survived another two rounds but took a tremendous beating in theprocess. For all intensive purposes, Wlodarczyk has retired Fragomeni, who cannot recover after taking a pounding in a loss like this. Fragomeni could not emerge from his corner for the start of round seven.

Result: Krzysztof Wlodarczyk Referee’s Technical Decision Six Giocobbe Fragobeni
Wlodarczyk retains the World Boxing Council World Cruiserweight title
Referee: Rocky Burke / Time: 3:00 / Fragomeni retires on his corner stool.

In the preliminary bout to the main event, International Boxing Federation number one light heavyweight contender Andrzej Fonfara, a Polish fighter out of Chicago, rose to 25-2 with fifteen knockouts with a second round knockout destruction of Samuel Miller. Miller, a Columbian super middleweight out of California who normally fights at 160 to 167 pounds, should go back to the 168 pound super middleweight division he came from.
