Frank Mir is going to Strikeforce to face Daniel Cormier
By: Anthony L. Gonzalez
Zuffa officials reported to USA Today that former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir (16-6) will head over to Strikeforce to challenge Daniel Cormier (10-0) in the last heavyweight fight held by Strikeforce.
The fight will either take place in a October Strikeforce card or be the co-main event on September 29th at the Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento, CA.
Cormier is coming off off a solid performance against Josh Barnett to win the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix.
Mir suffered a TKO loss to UFC champ Junior Dos Santos in his last fight.
This is a pivotal match for both fighter’s career and both wll be going to UFC after this month. This will definitely be a test to determine if the former wresting star Daniel Cormier is ready for UFC level competition. Both fighters are 33 years old.
Here is what Dana White had to say,
“There has been a lot of speculation as to who Cormier would fight next, and this is the fight that makes the most sense. The reality is, Cormier is one of the best heavyweights in the world. He just won the grand prix and beat Josh Barnett. He needs to fight opponents of that caliber, and Frank Mir is that guy.”
