Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis Cleared as Florida Charges Are Dismissed

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Miami, Florida (August 14th, 2025)– TMZ Sports has confirmed the domestic violence charges and case against World Boxing Association World Lightweight champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis have been dismissed. According to the Miami-Dade County Clerk’s Office, Davis’ misdemeanor battery charge stemming from an alleged domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend on Father’s Day 2025 was formally discharged and dismissed on Tuesday morning after the woman declined to prosecute the boxer. The case was terminated and closed by Judge Elisabeth Maria Espinosa Marin.

Davis had been arrested in Miami Beach, Florida, on July 11, 2025, transported to Doral Police Department and held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 7000 Northwest 41st Street in Miami. He was released later that day on 10 thousand dollars’ bond. Davis had arrived at the residence of his ex-girlfriend at 5:04 P.M. on June 15, 2025, to pick up his two children. After putting their two children in his car, the situation escalated.

The Miami-Dade (Florida) State’s Attorney Office told TMZ Sports “The case was dropped as the ex-girlfriend declined to prosecute as per her attorney, Lindsey Chase. Her sentiments were directly confirmed by the Assistant State Attorney handling the prosecution. The (alleged) witness to the (alleged) incident, who is the victim’s mother, also failed to cooperate and failed after being subpoenaed for a pretrial conference on Thursday August 7, 2025. Follow up attempts to contact the (alleged) witness [the mother] via phone were unsuccessful.”

The southpaw world champion Davis, 30-0-1 with 28 knockouts, Baltimore, Maryland, had been in negotiations for a 12 round titular rematch with Lamont Roach Jr., now 25-1-2 with 10 knockouts, Upper Marlboro, Maryland, after the two fought to a controversial majority draw in March 2025 in which Davis voluntarily took a knee, but did not have a one-point deduction taken away, claiming chemicals had gotten in his eyes. If Roach had been given the one point after Davis voluntarily took the knee, two scorecards which were 114-114 and 114-114 would have gone to Roach 115-113 and 115-113, giving him a unanimous decision win and the WBA world title. It is not known when Davis will return to the ring. Floyd Schofield, 19-0 with 13 knockouts, Austin, Texas, the WBA Continental Americas champion, is the number one WBA contender.
