Rapid Fire! William Zepeda Outpunches Lamont Roach in Bunches to Win WBC Lightweight Title

Las Vegas, Nevada (August 2nd, 2026)– William Zepeda Segura became the sixth Mexican fighter in history to win the World Boxing Council World Lightweight title by throwing 293 more punches than opponent Lamon Roach Jr., who threw only 591 punches, to earn a unanimous 12-round decision in the main event of a nine-bout card at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas on Saturday night, August 1, 2026.
Zepeda Segura, 34-1 with 27 knockouts, San Mateo Atenco, Mexico, also landed 218 punches to Roach’s 153 punches, earning him scorecards of 118-110, 117-11, 117-111 on the scorecards. Even Roach applauded the tabulations in the center ring, gracefully acknowledging he had been outpunched and convincingly beaten by combinations in volume alternating to the head and body. Zepeda continually found his way to the body, penetrating Roach’s defense 142 times with power punches to Roach’s 124. Zepeda also landed 76 jabs to Roach’s 29. Roach landed overall 26 percent of the time to Zepeda’s 25 percent. Zepeda’s volume was consistent nonstop, though, which left Roach with insufficient counterpunching opportunities.

25-0 Raymond Muratalla won in 12 rounds by unanimous decision over Robinson Conceicao, to retain the International Boxing Federation World Lightweight title.
17-0-1 Mexican Raul Curiel won in 12 rounds by majority decision over Quinton Randall, to retain the North American Boxing Federation Welterweight title.
22-1 Super welterweight Charles Cronwell stopped Paul Kroll at 2:38 of the ninth round. Kroll was down in the third round.
11-0 Joel Iriarte, welterweight, stopped Jorge Lagunas at 2:48 of the ninth round.
11-0 middleweight Fabian Guzman won in 8 rounds by unanimous decision over Aaron Coley.
12-0 Mexican super bantamweight Gael Cabrera won in 8 rounds over Francisco Pedraza Portillo.
10-0 Hawaiian lightweight Daleis Kaleiopu stopped Yeyery Castillo at 2:37 of the first round.
3-0 Mexican lightweight Juan Carlos Becerril knocked out Dylan Capetillo for the ten count at 2:59 of the third round in the opening bout.
