New York, NY (May 31st, 2025)– Former world light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Roy Jones Jr., 56, last fought professionally in 2023 and fought to a split draw at Staples Arena in Los Angeles with former World Heavyweight champion Iron Mike Tyson, 58, in an eight-round exhibition in November 2020, has called out Tyson for an exhibition rematch in the heart of Times Square in Manhattan.
Their original exhibition, during the heart of the Coronavirus pandemic, featuring too much holding during the two-minute rounds, with Jones appearing to favor clinches rather than taking chances and making a real fight of it. A real bout of eight or ten rounds, three-minute rounds, would be of greater interest, however Jones, in seeking another exhibition, is again not taking the high road in his rematch challenge. Tyson’s recent decision loss to Jake Paul was an official eight-rounder with two-minute rounds.
In a new interview with Prime Casino, Jones stated “I want to fight Mike Tyson (again in) at Times Square. We would ‘outperform’ Tank (Gervonta) Davis, Ryan Garcia and Teofimo Lopez. You put me in Times Square (with Iron Mike) and you will get a Times Square performance, because even at my age, if I went to Times Square to fight, I gotta give you a Times square performance. I can’t come to Times Square and not give you a Times Square performance.”
Jones continued trying to sell the public on the idea of a rematch between the two aging heavyweight warriors. “Me and Mike Tyson would have an unforgettable night at Times Square. You understand me? He’d be trying to kill me. I’ve been trying to piss him off so he wants to kill me, so I can have him coming for (after) me. I’ll be moving, being smart, (and) entertaining every chance I get. It would be epic (a classic, epic battle). Trust me. Mike Tyson has an appetite to fight (me) again. He keeps an appetite to fight. That’s what he does for a living. You see, what people don’t realize (is) the appetite (for a professional fighter to get inside the ring to fight) never dies. It’s just that the menu becomes so small, but the appetite stays there. So, if you get the opportunity, of course you’re going to fight! That’s what we do. We grew up fighting. All we know is fighting. We love fighting.”
