Joe Cordina was hoping to reclaim his IBF super-featherweight belt last night in Wales as he took on Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov.
The pair put on one of the best displays of the year so far, live on DAZN, and it was the Welshman who emerged victorious.
He won by a split decision 111-116, 115-112, 114-113 in a tight victory, and after fight, explained how he won.
“Rakhimov’s meant to be the bogeyman to everyone in this division,” he told the BBC.
“He’s strong, he’s tough but I wanted to show I can stand there and have it with him.”
