Fury vs. Chisora III Top Rank ESPN Tottenham Card Preview and Predictions
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
London, UK (December 2, 2022)– Top Rank, ESPN and BT Sport will present an exciting televised seven-bout card of boxing, featuring the trilogy bout between Tyson Fury and Dereck ‘Dell Boy’ Chisora fighting a scheduled 12-round main event for Fury’s lineal and World Boxing Council World Heavyweight title, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in Tottenham, United Kingdom, December 3, 2022.
Fury, 32-0-1 with 23 knockouts, Morecambe, Lancashire, United Kingdom, is predicted to win by eighth-round TKO or knockout over Chisora, 33-12 with 23 knockouts, Finchley, London, United Kingdom. Chisora, who lost a 12-round split decision over Kubrat Pulev in Hamburg, Germany in 2016, won a 12-round rematch split decision over Pulev at 02 Arena in Greenwich, United Kingdom, on July 9, 2022, to set up the trilogy match with Fury.
In July 2011, Chisora, nicknamed ‘Del Boy’ and ‘War’. Lost a 12-round decision at Wembley Arena to Fury, losing the BBB of C and British Commonwealth Heavyweight titles he won by stopping Sam Sexton at Lg Arena in Birmingham 10 months earlier. In November 2014 at ExCel Arena in Dockland, Chisora retired in his corner against Tyson Fury after the tenth round in a rematch for the British European, and WBO International Heavyweight titles.
Chisora, over the years, has functioned as a sort of heavyweight top ten gatekeeper. After losing consecutive bouts to Robert Helenius, Vitali Klitschko and David Haye, Chisora lost to Pulev, Dillian Whyte, Agit Kabayel, Oleksandr Usyk, and Joseph Parker (twice). Besides winning the rematch with Pulev, Chisora has beaten 35-0 Malik Scott, Artur Szpilka, David Price (who he retired in 2019), Carlos Takam, Ondrej Pala, Kevin Johnson, Sam Sexton, Edmund Gerber and Senad Gashi.
At 38, Chisora’s third bout with Fury, and second world title bout, will probably be his last hurrah. The all-British affair theoretically protects Fury’s 2023 intended date with destiny with IBF, WBA, WBO and IBO World Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury of Ukraine. Chisora will give his best effort. Pulev was 41 years old when Chisora beat him. Fury is eight inches taller than Chisora, yet their weights are similar at 264 or so for Fury to 258 or so for Chisora. Fury, if in condition, will move better and hit harder. Fury has an eleven inches reach advantage. Chisora will fall, and this time, he probably will not get up. Whenever Tyson Fury steps into the ring, his appearance is not a social call.
In the preliminary bout to the main event, Daniel Dubois is favored by 12 round unanimous or majority decision over cruiserweight champion Kevin Larena in defense of Dubois’ World Boxing Association regular world heavyweight title. Dubois, 18-1 with 17 knockouts, Greenwich, London, United Kingdom, will have his hands full with southpaw Larena, 28-1 with 14 knockouts, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa, the former IBO World Cruiserweight champion and current IBO Inter-Continental heavyweight champion.
Larena ballooned up 34 pounds from cruiserweight to heavyweight. At 6’1″, he is shorter than Dubois, who will outweigh him by at least 10 pounds. With this encounter, the better conditioned fighter has the best advantage. Larena could get stopped if he cannot move. Dubois’ toughest fight since his loss to Joe Joyce.
EBU European Lightweight champion Yves Mendy, 47-5-1 with 22 knockouts, Pont Sante-Maxence, France, is favored to retain his European title by 12 round unanimous decision over Denys Berinchyk, 16-0 with nine knockouts, Paris, France. Berinchyk, 34, has fought only once in the past 21 months, though Mendy at age 37, could tire in the later rounds.
