By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Brisbane, Australia (March 5th, 2022)– Former two-time world title challenger Dennis “Hurricane” Hogan, age 37, (30-4) with seven knockouts, Newstead, Queensland, Australia, by way of Kildare, Ireland, won a 12 round decision over Wade Ryan, 20-10 with seven knockouts, Gunnedah, New South Wales, Australia, to win an International Boxing Organisation World Super Welterweight title eliminator bout on Thursday, March 3, 2022, in Brisbane, Australia.
The Boxrec currently lists the International Boxing Organisation World Super Welterweight titles as being vacant. The other world titles are currently held by Jermell Charlo and Brian Carlos Castano, who will soon meet in a rematch of their title unification draw. It has not yet been declared who Hogan’s opponent for the vacant IBO world title will be.
Between 2019 and 2021, Hogan, currently still ranked ninth in the world, ran into three fighters with a combined record today of 91-0 and lost to them, Jermall Charlo, Jaime Munguia, and Tim Tszyu. Hogan has won twice since then on his comeback. Hogan’s name is not listed in the IBO Top 100 at Super Welterweight 154 pounds ratings for March 2022. Presumably, his name will appear in the April 2022 IBO World Super Welterweight Top 100 ratings with this win in the IBO eliminator down under.
