New York, NY (September 3rd, 2020)– Jean-Baptiste Mendy, perhaps the best professional boxer ever to come out of Senegal,  who fought out of Paris, France, and held the European Lightweight title, and the World Lightweight and Super-Lightweight titles, has died at the age of 57.

A southpaw, Mendy compiled a career professional record of 55-8-3 with 31 knockouts between 1983 and 2000. Mendy held both the French and European Lightweight titles, the World Boxing Council World Lightweight and World Boxing Association World Super Lightweight titles during his distinguished career. Mendy finished his career with an eight-round decision win over Pedro Garcia in Paris in April 2000.
