Floyd Fighter Devin Haney Favored Over Maynard in ShoBox USBA Battle at 2300 Arena

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Philadelphia, PA (May 10th, 2018)–   Floyd Mayweather Promotions super lightweight prospect Devin ‘The Dream’ Haney, 18-0 with 12 knockouts, 19 years old, Las Vegas, Nevada, will fight for the vacant United States Boxing Association USBA Lightweight title in the 2300 Arena main event on Showtime’s ShoBox: The Next Generation in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Friday evening, May 11, 2018, against Mason Meynard, 29 years old, 33-2 with 24 knockouts, Rayne, Louisiana.

Maynard was knocked out in his hometown in 27 seconds by Carl McNickles in 2008, the same Carl McNickles at one time trained by this reporter in 2015. Meynard won an eight round decision over 21-4 Oscar Bravo in 2014, and scored a ninth-round knockout of 19-2 Bahodir Mamadjonov in 2016, only to get kayoed by Reymundo Beltran in seven rounds in 2016. Meynard won an eight round decision over 22-12-1 Carlos Cardenas in 2017, but has been inactive for 14 months.

Maynard has won at eight, 10 and 12 rounds, while Haney has never gone past eight rounds. While this bout is a showcase bout for Haney, Maynard will probably not go quietly until such point as he does. Haney is predicted to win by stoppage between rounds six and eight, and should be way ahead on the scorecards before the stoppage occurs.

In other bouts, super bantamweights Glen Dezurn, 9-1-1, Baltimore, Maryland, and Joshua Greer Jr., 16-1-1, Chicago, Illinois, will fight the preliminary bout to the main event in a ten rounder likely to go to a decision which remains too close to call, and should be extremely exciting as it is a great match on paper.

11-0-1 Arnold Khegai of Odessa, Ukraine, a super bantamweight and featherweight prospect, will be tested by 16-2-2 Adam Lopez of San Antonio, Texas, whose last six bouts have all yielded different results at eight, nine, and ten round distances. The Khegai versus Lopez eight rounder could go either way. However, Kehai knocked out his 11-0 opponent at 2:58 of the tenth and final round of his last bout, so Khegai is favored to win in a good scrap.

15-0 New Haven, Connecticut light heavyweight Charles Foster will be in a hard-fought affair again 15-0-1 Alvin Vermall Jr of Catskill, New York. Vermall is coming down from cruiserweight, so he will be stronger at the lower weight, but Vermall remains untested.

Jeremy Cuevas Win 6 Hector Marengo, Lightweights (Marengo stopped twice in last five bouts)

Craig Duncan Win 6 David Murray, Light Heavyweights (match between unbeatens)

Branden Pizarro KO 5 Israel Villela, Lightweights (rematch of decision won by Pizarro)

Milton Santiago Win 6 Jorge Luis Munguia, Lightweights (tune-up for 16-0 Santiago)
