Chicago, IL (December 5th, 2016)– Undefeated Chicago welterweight prospect Ed ‘Bad Boy’ Brown, (22-0) age 25, who won 13 bouts after signing with Las Vegas promoter Cameron Dunkin in 2015, the most recent win being an eight round decision over Albert Mensah this past November 11, 2016, at 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has died, 24 hours after being shot in the head in Chicago, Illinois, in a parked car. The death was confirmed by his manager, Mike Cericola.
Brown was murdered execution style. Drugs were not involved, but the motive remains unclear. Brown and a 19-year-old woman identified as Brown’s sister, were sitting in a parked car at around 1 a.m. Saturday December 3, 2016, in Chicago’s East Garfield Park neighborhood. Brown was dropping his sister off at her home when another car pulled up, and someone inside the car shot at Brown three times. Chicago police said Brown was shot numerous times. His sister, who is in good condition, was shot once in the leg.
Brown’s Las Vegas promoter, Cameron Dunkin, had told him many times to move away from Chicago, and had offered to pay to relocate the fighter to Las Vegas where Dunkin lives. Brown’s mother was one of 21 victims who tragically died in the 2003 E2 nightclub stampede in Chicago. Brown’s father went to prison, and he was raised by a grandmother.
Brown was shot in the chest after his first professional victory in 2012. After rehabilitation, he won two more fights, got shot again, and then spent ten months in prison before signing with Dunkin. Ed Brown is survived by his three year old daughter.
