“May-a-veli The Don Skilluminati: The 7 Day Theory”
“Day Four – Against All Odds”
Editorial By Zo Crooks, Real Combat Media Chicago Boxing Video Reporter
Las Vegas, NV (May 2, 2015)– “Hoping my true #mfs know, this be the realest shit I ever wrote, against all odds…” Tupac Shakur
America loves the “good guy”. The guy that they place the white coat on. “Mr. Untouchable” or the man that can’t do no wrong. Once you have that coat on, you are the savior. You are what everyone thinks is pure. Put it like this, if you were watching a football game with Skip Bayless and he raves to you about this backup quarterback that you should be the starter. He goes on and on about how great this athlete is. Now keep in mind you never heard of the player that he is talking about. Then Tim Tebow enters the game. Feel me?
There are many athletes that wear that coat that has been placed on them. Unfortunately Floyd “Money” Mayweather is not one of them. I will admit that Floyd has made mistakes, hell we all do, but to have a man’s career picked apart, criticized, and belittled is , in the words of Stephen A. Smith, “Blasphemy”! Floyd will not wear that coat here in America. Saturday he is fighting Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines. I never seen an American athlete that the country turn their back on so much like Floyd. Good, bad, or indifferent if Floyd was a fighter from Mexico his country would stand behind him a strong one hundred regardless of his imperfections. It’s like he is fighting against the Philippines and the Americans.
Floyd has a right to be upset going into this fight. Turn to any channel and his history of past troubles are always brought up. Same with any article online. It’s like you can’t say his name without bringing up something that he did years ago. However Pacquiao is a celebrated hero going into Saturday’s fight. Isn’t the fight taking place in America? Last I checked Floyd pays his taxes here, resides here, and does charitable work here! He doesn’t win a fight here and take his purse overseas. Also I remember when Floyd fought for the red, white and blue in the 96′ Olympics right here in Atlanta, GA.
As the fight approaches I am so glad that he took the quiet and humble approach. Honestly in a sense that has pissed off a lot of Americans especially the media. He be damned if he do or don’t in my opinion. Tupac said it best, “I probably be murdered for the shit that I said. I bring the real, be a legend, breathing or dead”! This was evident when Floyd spoke with Stephen A. in an all access interview. He can be quoted as saying that “You can’t brainwash me into thinking that Sugar Ray Robinson was better than me…Muhammad Ali was better than me. I gave my whole life to the sport of boxing”! What he is referring to is the skills inside of that squared circle. Floyd always pay homage to those before him. He respects the game and its previous players, but as a dedicated athlete that his given his life, made the sacrifices, displayed the discipline necessary to stay at the top, you are not going to tell him that he shouldn’t feel that way when it comes to his skills. He will party with you till the early morning hour without drinking or smoking and run miles home from the club. STOP PLAYIN!!! He is for real about this! Never out of shape. Always ready! But the media take this out of context and blow it up differently. Muhammad Ali is an icon and rightfully so. The work that that man has done for our people, our country, our lives is immeasurable. Nothing short of amazing! Floyd knows this just like we all do. In order to be the best in the ring you have to train and believe like you are the best! Floyd is not talking humanitarian awards or anything like that…he is talking skill for skill. He is talking boxing!
Just look at the parallels that exist between Ali and Floyd. They were both the best of their era. They were both hated during their time for whatever reason. And they will both go down as two of the most accomplished and heralded fighters when its all said and done. Ali got his white coat once his career was over and he DESERVED it!!! To me Ali is the G.O.A.T but I also believe that Floyd is T.B.E.
That kind of skills and talent doesn’t come along often. While it is here we should appreciate it. His career is coming to an end very soon with only two fights left. In Floyd “Money” Mayweather we are witnessing a true legend!!!
