Shi No Tenshi, Japanese Boxer Tesshin Okada Dies, 38th Japanese Fatality Since 1951

‘Shi No Tenshi’ is Japanese language for ‘Angel of Death’. Debuting Japanese super flyweight boxer Tesshin Okada, 21 years old, died on Wednesday January 6, 2014, from injuries sustained when he was knocked out by another debuting boxer, Masafumi Kamiyama, on December 20, 2013, at Korakuen Hall, in Tokyo, Japan. After losing consciousness in the ring, Okada was taken to the hospital in Tokyo and underwent an operation the brain after suffering an acute subdural hematoma (brain hemorrhage). Funeral services are pending in his native Funabashi, Chiba, Japan. Okada was the 38th Japanese boxer to die since the Japan Boxing Commission was founded in 1951. The vast majority of Japanese boxers fight professionally in the lower weight classes.
