Huge KO Victory by Gennady “GGG” Golovkin

Mashantucket, Connecticut (June 30, 2013)–Another explosive night of boxing shown on HBO Boxing After Dark®. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin defended his WBA/IBO Middleweight title against Matthew “Mack The Knife” Macklin. After only 3 of 12 rounds Golovkin fought an impressive fight with a KO victory and increased his record to 27-0-0 (24 KO’s).
Golovkin fans were the majority in the house. Golovkin landed the cleaner, harder punches. During round 1 Golovkin landed a right that wobbled Macklin against the ropes. Round 2, Golovkin is on the attack and wants to finish off his prey. Golovkin continues the punishment by backing Macklin up against the ropes. Round 3, Golovkin controls the action while Macklin is trying to fight back. Golovkin finally finishes off Macklin with a left hook to the body, liver shot that drives Macklin to the canvas. The ringside physician, Dr. Michael Schwartz rushes to Macklin. Matthew “Mack The Knife” Macklin record dropped to (29-5-0).
Co-Main Event:
10-round bout between IBO super middleweight titlist Thomas “Tommy Gun” Oosthuizen (21-0-1) vs. Brandon “Flawless” Gonzales (17-0-1). There is a considerable height difference between the two fighters. Oosthuizen being the tall of the two. Both fought a tough competitive fight. Gonzalez continued worked the jab throughout the rounds. Oosthuizen’s face was swollen especially over his right eye. After 10 rounds the judges scored the bout. Judges scored the fight a draw. The results 98-96 for Gonzales; 96-94 for Oosthuizen and 95-95.
10 rounds super welterweight Willie “The Great” Nelson of Cleveland, Ohio vs. Luciano Leonel “El Principito” Cuello of Madrid, Spain. Both fighters fought an aggressive fight. Cuello being the heavier puncher. Nelson controlled the earlier rounds. Cuello cut the ring off well. Round 7 Cuello hurts Nelson with a combination of punches, wobbles Nelson a bit and backs up Nelson against the ropes. Nelson gets off the ropes. Cuello can’t seem to finish Nelson. Nelson appears to be running out of gas. Round 10 both fighters aggressively going for the knock down. Nelson left eye is swollen. This is an all out war. Both throwing combinations. During the fight Cuello’s left eye has swollen and his right eye is cut. Nelson retains his NABF Super Welterweight Title by UD. The judges scored the bout 97-93; 97-93 and 96-94. The crowd didn’t like the outcome and boo’s were heard throughout the arena.
Nelson increased his record to 21-1-0 and Cuello decreased his record to 32-3-0. Winner and NABF Super Welterweight Champ
Undercard bouts:
8 round super lightweight Danny “Bhoy” O’Connor vs. Hector “The Hurricane” Munoz. Winner by UD O’Connor. All 3 judges scored the bout 79-73.
8 round junior featherweight Luis “KO King” Rosa Jr. vs. Jose Angel “Pepe” Beranza. Winner Rosa by UD. All 3 Judges scored the bout 79-72.
6 round super welterweight Dusty Hernandez Harrison vs. Ben Ankrah. Winner Harrison by UD. Judges scored it 59-55; 60-54 and 60-54.
The event was held live at MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut and was promoted by K2 Promotions and DiBella Entertainment.
