Maurice Harris in Another Heavyweight Comeback Bid. Is Mago Next?
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media correspondent
Maurice ‘No Better’ Harris is back at age 37, the veteran heavyweight having won a close split decision over six rounds over Jason Bergman on May 3, 2013, in Pennsylvania. Harris, now 26-17-2 with eleven knockouts has the record of a deceiving veteran, as one never knows which Maurice Harris is going to show up. On this occasion, Harris did enough to win and put himself and Boxing 360 back in the hunt, into the heavyweight mix for another big fight here or there.
Bryant Jennings of Pennsylvania (where Harris just fought) holds the USBA Heavyweight title previously held by Harris. Harris is still ranked at number nine by the USBA. Odlanier Solis Fonte of Cuba holds the IBF Intercontinental title. The The WBO and IBO Intercontinental titles are open. The NABA title is vacant at last glance. The WBC FECOMBOX title is open.
Russian WBC USNBC champion Magomed Abdusalamov is taking casino fights in Atlantic City, where Harris also fights, and they would be a great regional title match if promoter Samson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing and Dr. Mario Yagobi of Boxing 360 could put the bout together, a real main event winner for a Friday night ESPN2 card. Abdusalamov put Sebastian Ceballos down three times in the first round in their April 2013 bout in Buenos Aires, and Harris would be the step up in class challenge Mago really needs to test his future in the heavyweight division.
