There is another title fight happening on December 3rd that many seem to be forgetting about. Besides the Super Middleweight Title fight happening in New York City, there is one happening in Anaheim, Calif. This is for the IBF Bantamweight (118-pound limit) Title between Abner Mares (Champion) vs Joseph Agbeko. The last time was during Showtime’s Bantamweight Tournament with both fighters making it to the final to face each other.
The fight was supposed to crown a champion for the tournament, but instead it left controversy because of referee Russel Mora incompetence. Mares was repeatedly throwing low blows during the fight with Mora only giving Mares warnings and never taking away a point. In the 11th round Mares threw a body punch but landed below the beltline on Agbeko, sending him to one knee. Referee Russel Mora was standing in the perfect position to see the foul and ruled it a NO KNOCKDOWN, but instead ruled it a knockdown giving Mares the points needed to win the fight. Russel Mora was criticized for his horrible performance and for taking away what should have been a great night of boxing and making it a night of disgust among the fans.
The Mares vs Agbeko II will be a very good fight and should not be overlooked by the other championship title fight that will be shown on PPV. There will be plenty of fireworks in this Bantamweight Title rematch. Just like the other title fight, both men in this fight also have something to prove and have animosity because of how their last fight ended. Both fighters will come out ready for war and finally settle the score.
The fight will air on Showtime, 10pm ET (Live). Also fighting on this card will be Anselmo Moreno vs. Vic Darchinyan, 12 rounds, for Moreno‘s WBA bantamweight title; Eric Morel vs. Jose Silveira, 10 rounds, junior featherweight.
