GERVONTA DAVIS VS. JAKE PAUL IS CANCELED!

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Miami, Florida (November 4th, 2025)– Speaking out on his X account, Jake Paul, who has officially cancelled his exhibition bout with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, qualified his current feelings towards Tank Davis, and the most recent civil domestic abuse complaint allegations Davis now faces, with a profound desire for himself and his Most Valuable Promotions MVP group to distance themselves from Davis and the negative publicity he generates. Initial reports suggested an estimated payday of up to 40 million dollars for Davis, and 50 million for Paul from the exhibition revenue.

Gervonta Davis is an actual walking human piece of garbage. Working with him is an absolute nightmare. The unprofessionalism, the bizarre requests, the showing up hours late to shoots. To the numerous arrests and related accusations, and lawsuits. If you support this man, you support the most vile sin(s) a man can commit. I didn’t want to give this woman abuser a platform to grow his fans and to grow his bank account. My company champions (the rights of) women. I’m so sorry to everyone involved. Mostly to the undercard fighters, to my team at MVP, and to my team who worked so hard prepping for this fight. Sacrificing time with loved ones and kids, just for this fool (Davis) to lose his unintelligent mind again. It’s scary that devilish men like this can rise to the top of culture and sports, including in positions of power. I hope you people moving forward look beyond his fake streetwear pieces ‘SWAG’ and search for something deeper to be a fan of. As for me, it’s on to the next one as always. Anyone. Anytime. Any place.”

Davis, who converted to Islam in December 2023, is also known by his Muslim name Abdul Walid.

Davis History of Domestic Incidents and Disposition (Source: Wikipedia)

On September 19, 2017, an arrest warrant was issued for Davis, who was being accused of first-degree aggravated assault. According to Maryland court records, the alleged incident took place on August 1, 2017, but did not indicate who was involved or what happened. An amount of $100,000 unsecured bond was posted for Davis’ release. Davis was due to appear in court on October 19, 2017. The charge was changed to misdemeanor second-degree assault, which carries a maximum potential sentence of 10 years or a fine of $2,500 or both. At the court, Anthony Wheeler, a childhood friend, complained that Davis punched him on the side of the head with a gloved fist. He then stated he was diagnosed with a concussion at the hospital. The incident took place at the Upton Boxing Center in West Baltimore. It was said that Davis would stand trial on November 29, 2017. On that day, the charges were dropped by Wheeler. The Baltimore Sun stated Davis and Wheeler both embraced and walked out of the courtroom together.

On September 14, 2018, Davis was arrested in Washington, D.C. According to a police report, he and another man started a fist fight. Punches were being landed around the upper body. It was said someone had tried to break up the fight, and both men tried to flee before the police arrived.

On February 1, 2020, Davis was arrested on charges of simple battery and domestic violence against his former girlfriend. The incident occurred at Watsco Center at the University of Miami during a basketball game, where he was seen grabbing the woman’s shirt with his right hand close to her throat and dragging her to a separate room.

On March 22, 2021, Davis was indicted on fourteen counts for allegedly causing a serious car crash after running a red light after a November 2020 birthday party in Downtown Baltimore. His Lamborghini Urus struck another car and left it smoking, sending its four occupants to the hospital, including a pregnant woman. He allegedly left the scene in a Camaro which pulled up minutes later. On February 16, 2021, Davis accepted a plea deal which saw him plead guilty to leaving the scene of an accident involving bodily injury, failing to notify an owner of property damage, driving on a suspended license, and running a red light. He was sentenced on May 5, 2023, to 90 days of house arrest and three years of probation, which he is still on. On June 1, 2023, Davis was taken into custody for violating the terms of his home detention and sentenced to serve the remainder of his sentence in jail. Only 44 days later, on July 14, 2023, Davis completed the confinement portion of his sentence and was released from a Baltimore jail.

On December 27, 2022, days before he was due to fight Hector Garcia, Davis was arrested and jailed in Florida on a charge of battery domestic violence. In the audio from 911 calls, a woman was heard begging police for help and saying “He’s going to kill me.” Police observed an abrasion on the inside of the woman’s lip, with Davis accused of striking her with a closed hand type slap. The woman later recanted her accusation, and the Héctor García bout went off as scheduled, which Davis won.

On July 11, 2025, Davis was taken into custody in Miami Beach following an arrest on a battery charge. This came approximately a month after he was accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend. According to police reports, the alleged incident took place outside the victim’s residence on Father’s Day, June 15, 2025. According to the report, Davis arrived at the victim’s residence to collect their children when a verbal dispute escalated into a physical confrontation. Davis allegedly instructed the victim to remove the children from his car, asserting that he would no longer be responsible for their transportation. As his ex-girlfriend attempted to get the children out of the vehicle, he reportedly struck her on the back of the head and slapped her, causing a small cut inside her lip. He was booked at 3:35 am at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. He was released later that day on $10,000 bond. On August 12, 2025, it was announced that the domestic violence case against him had been dropped after the victim declined to prosecute.

On October 31, 2025, Davis was served with a civil lawsuit filed by his former girlfriend, Courtney Rossel. She claims multiple instances of violence, including battery and kidnapping. The lawsuit stated an incident occurred on October 27, 2025, during which Davis reportedly assaulted Rossel while she was working in the Miami Tootsie’s Gentlemen’s Strip Club as a VIP server, resulting in police involvement. The civil complaint alleges Davis choked her, threatened to kill her, and assaulted her both in private and in public settings. Roussel’s complaint seeks monetary damages. While not the first time Davis has faced similar charges from other women, Roussel has not filed a criminal complaint

Aftermath of Latest Allegations and Refusal of Francis Ngannou to Replace Davis

Most Valuable Promotions on Netflix cancelled the Jake Paul versus Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis seemingly ridiculous 200 pounds versus 135 pounds exhibition, which generated controversial publicity while it lasted and still is. Actually, Floyd versus Manny Pacquiao or Iron Mike Tyson still has a better chance of taking place, all angles considered, as those parties are not involved in any current civil actions.

Social media icon Paul says he will fight a new opponent still to be named on December 12 or December 19, 2025. It is not known if the location will be the originally scheduled Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida. Paul, 12-1 with seven knockouts, Dorado, Puerto Rico, cancelled his date with destiny with southpaw Davis, 30-0-1 with 28 knockouts, Baltimore, Maryland, the current World Boxing Association World Lightweight champion.

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou, now competing in the MMA Professional Fighters League, in which Paul has a stake, publicly stated he refused consideration as a possible next exhibition opponent for Paul. Ngannou, 39, has boxed professionally twice, losing a controversial split decision to Tyson Fury in 2023 and by knockout to Anthony Joshua in 2024.

According to a statement by Ngannou, “No, there’s no such thing happening. How can they go from Gervonta Davis to Francis Ngannou? I mean, Gervonta Davis is a fantastic boxer, he’s a one-shot knockout artist but come on. The weight difference and everything make no sense. Gervonta Davis, you count and say okay, the size difference, he can level up, but at this point, for me, it (fighting Jake Paul) makes no sense. I’m like, ‘No, bro, come on, don’t disrespect me like that. They even come out after and say what if the numbers are good?’ He sends out some number, and I’m like, it’s not about the number. If it was about the number, we could have started up.’ I’m just not interested. It (fighting Jake Paul) makes no sense for me. It’s not what I’m looking at (for) right now.”

Paul reacted to Ngannou’s words in a new reply tweet. “Dear Francis – just say you already got humiliated in boxing and are scared to lose to Jake Paul. I accept that. You are light work my friend. Stuck in mud.”
