Sebastian Juarez Kos Layton in one of the ‘Craziest rounds’ of 2025

South Padre Island, Texas (October 20th, 2025)– In an absolute one round DAZN masterpiece of a comeback thriller, undefeated middleweight prospect Sebastian Juarez, 10-0, eight knockouts, Brownsville, Texas, went toe to toe with Demarcus Layton, now 10-8 with seven knockouts, Little Rock, Arkansas, on what evolved into the round of the year for 2025 televised on DAZN.

The bout took place on the undercard of a 10-bout card on Saturday night, October 18, 2025, at the Convention Center in South Padre Island, Texas, which featured two female world title bouts. Juarez versus Layton totally stole the DAZN show. What evolved was a you-never-know sort of bout, where the outcome that emerged was the opposite of what you would think. A brilliant job of refereeing by veteran world championship referee Laurence Cole, who retained control of the ring at all times, and let the strange bout run till its ultimate conclusion, adding to the impossibility of what happened in the ring in 180 seconds.

39 seconds in, Juarez walked into a Layton right hand, and got laid out on his back. He beat the count at five. The count reached six as Juarez staggered around the ring. Telling referee Laurence Cole he was good, Juarez nonetheless staggered slightly, so the count continued until it reached eight, with Juarez somehow still on his feet. Juarez was somehow able to respond to the referee’s command and come to referee Cole, though his legs were absolutely gone.

Getting pushed to the canvas, again, Juarez held Layton for dear life, hanging on to Clayton’s legs from the floor. Getting hit again, Juarez held on for dear life, and lost a point for holding. Again, Juarez got hit and held on for dear life to Clayton’s legs, and got docked a second point for holding. Again, Juarez was holding as he was pushed to the floor.

After exchanging punches with Layton and winding up on the ropes in a clinch, Juarez landed a short right, which sent Layton to the canvas with 40 seconds left in round one. Layton beat the count, and the bout resumed with 29 seconds left in the round. In the wild slugfest that followed, a wild right hook thrown by Juarez dropped Layton in a corner with 17 seconds left. Layton held onto the ropes, which held him up, then held onto the ropes as he took the count again. Layton got up with seconds remaining, and the bout resumed.

Layton got hit by Juarez and was staggered. As punches flew, Juarez threw a right which sent Layton to the canvas onto his back as the round ended, ending the most dramatic comeback ever seen in recent memory, in the DAZN round of the year, and DAZN fight of the year. If it is action that you seek, his round had it all and more. The bouts that followed, Gabriel Rosado’s decision win over Vaughn Alexander, were ordinary compared to this one.
