Theatre of the Unexpected! Gabriel Rosado Wins by Knockout at 39 and Calls Out Edgar Berlanga

Los Angeles, CA (August 5th, 2025)–  In the 2025 era of improbable comebacks, Jeremy Bates, Ike Ibeabuchi, Oliver McCall and more, here’s an interesting noteworthy comeback not in the heavyweight division. King Gabriel Rosado, age 39, the famous middleweight gatekeeper, 27-17-1 with 16 knockouts, returned to the ring at light heavyweight after a 30 months absence and scored a first-round stoppage of former UBO light heavyweight world title challenger southpaw Crispulo Javier Andino, 26-18-1 with 12 knockouts, Posadas, Argentina.

Rosado threw a clubbing right hook to the body late in the first round which sent Andino face first to the canvas at 2:30 of the first round. Andino took the count and did not get up. After the fight, Rosado called out super middleweight Edgar Berlanga next for a Puerto Rico versus Puerto Rico epic confrontation. “We (my corner) wants Berlanga (next) in Puerto Rico,” Rosado said after winning his comeback bout.

Berlanga, 23-2 with 18 knockouts, Lithia, Florida, age 28, ‘The Chosen One’, fighting at super middleweight, now appears to be damaged goods, as he went down three times and got knocked out in the fifth round on July 12, 2025, at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens by Hamzah Sheeraz. His limited performance against an established power hitter like Sheeraz evidently gave Rosado some light of hope if he fights Berlanga next at 168 pounds

Andino weighed 172 pounds, Rosado 167.3 pounds for their recent bout. Rosado is already a game player at super middleweight and is ready to take on the challenge if Berlanga accepts. Rosado went 4-8-1 in his last 13 bouts, however all of those losses were by controversial 10 or 12-round decision. Perhaps Rosado, a hard-hitting veteran with vast experience, feels he has a chance of knocking Berlanga out with at least a few good competitive bouts left in the tank. It will be interesting to see if the Berlanga camp accepts Rosado’s callout challenge.
