Heavyweight Angles Evolving: Joshua vs. Fury or Usyk, Joe Joyce vs. Usyk or Chisora
Editorial By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
World Boxing Council World Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has gone public with a new tee-shirt emblazoned with Anthony Joshua and Eddie Hearn which calls them “You Big Dossers” (homeless people). The outrageous new taunt is meant to bait Joshua and Hearn into a heavyweight titular 2021 pay-per-view extravaganza.
If Anthony Joshua, 24-1 with 22 knockouts, Watford, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom, and promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing move forward in 2021 with a potential two fight 200 million pound deal to fight with Tyson Fury, 30-0-1 with 21 knockouts, Wilmslow, Cheshire, United Kingdom, and unify the five paper heavyweight titles into a single lineal title and The Ring Magazine belt, the World Boxing Organisation World Heavyweight title might get sprung loose.
After defeating number one contender Kubrat Pulev, Joshua, who holds the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO World Heavyweight belts, has a mandatory defense against WBO number contender Oleksandr Usyk, 18-0 with 13 knockouts, Kiev, Ukraine, the former world cruiserweight champion. Joshua might have to forfeit that belt to fight Fury, the World Boxing Council World Heavyweight champion.
Meanwhile, BBBofC British and European, WBC Silver and WBO International Heavyweight champion Joe Joyce, 12-0 with 11 knockouts, Putney, London, United Kingdom, fresh off his win over Daniel Dubois, could fight for the vacant title against Usyk, or if that scenario does not occur, Joyce could fight Dereck Chisora, 32-10 with 23 knockouts, Finchley, London, United Kingdom.
Dillian Whyte, 27-2 with 18 knockouts, Brixton, London, United Kingdom, still hopes for a shot with Joshua if he can win a rematch with former world heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin, 36-2 with 25 knockouts, Chekhov, Russian, Federation, who knocked out while at Matchroom Fight camp in Brentwood last August. Their 2021 rematch has been postponed indefinitely because Povetkin has been hospitalized for a second time, after contracting the COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus. Former cruiserweights including Mairis Breidis, Mike Hunter, and Kevin Larena are now in the heavyweight mix, while former champions Andy Ruiz Jr. and Deontay Wilder, and contenders Luis Ortiz, Robert Helenius, Martin Bakole, Daniel Dubois, Charles Martin, Kubrat Pulev, Tony Yoka, Joseph Parker, Efe Ajagba, Filip Hrgovic and Adam Kownacki return in 2021.
