FOUR TITLE BOUTS ON OCTOBER 6 IN BAYAMON, PUERTO RICO AT “THE WAR, PUERTO RICO VS MEXICO”, VAZQUEZ JR. VS MARQUEZ

 

            World Boxing Organization (WBO) Latino champions Jonathan “Polvo” Oquendo and Jose “Chelo” Gonzalez were added to defend their titles on October 6 in the card “The War, Puerto Rico vs Mexico”, where former world champions Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. and Rafael Marquez will face in the superbantamweight division, just as Mexican Moises Fuentes will defend his WBO title against former two time titlist Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, in a PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) presentation, in association with All Star Boxing, Top Rank and Promociones Zanfer will broadcast on “Pay Per View”.

            “This will be great. We will present four title fights with Vazquez Jr. against Marquez, Fuentes versus Calderon, and we will have Jonathan Oquendo, the #3 ranked in 122 pounds, facing world contender Jose “Miau” Nieves, and also the unbeaten Jose “Chelo” Gonzalez defending his lightweight belt”, promoter Ivan Rivera, PRBBP president said.

            Headlining the show, Vazquez Jr. (21-2-1, 18 KOs), former WBO superbantamweight champion, will face Marquez (41-7, 37 KOs), a former IBF bantamweight and WBC superbantamweight champion, for the WBO International superbantamweight title in a fight scheduled to 12 rounds. Marquez is ranked #6 and Vazquez Jr. #8 by the WBO in the superbatmweights.

            Meanwhile, Iron Boy Calderon (35-2-1, 6 KOs) will try to win again the WBO minimum crown facing champion Moises Fuentes (15-1, 7 KOs), from Mexico. Calderon, the #3 WBO ranked in the 105lb, held the minimum title for many years with 12 successful defenses.

            In a co-headline bout Oquendo (22-2, 15 KOs), the #3 ranked by the WBO in the superbantamweights, will fight for the first time in a year after his recovery from an accident, when he faces countryman Jose “Miau” Nieves (20-2-3, 9 KOs) for the WBO Latino superbantamweight title, scheduled to 10 rounds. Nieves is ranked 10 by the WBO in the bantamweights.

            The other TV bout will have the undefeated Jose “Chelo” Gonzalez (20-0, 15 KOs) defending his WBO Latino lightweight title against a foe to be named. Gonzalez is ranked #4 by the WBO in the lightweight division.
