WBC Supports GGG for President of the Olympic World Boxing, and WBC Day of the Dead Belt

 Rome, Italy (October 31st, 2025)– The election for the presidency of World Boxing will be held in Rome, Italy, on November 23, 2025. Leading the candidates will be the former World Middleweight champion, Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin, seeking to oversee the role of amateur boxing at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and beyond. “Let’s build the future together,” notes GGG in his candidacy.

 The new World Boxing Organization seeks to meet the amateur standards of the International Olympic Committee (ICC). The GGG candidacy underscores the seriousness with which the global professional boxing community is now addressing the boxing Olympic crisis in a major big to restore integrity to the sport. Placing GGG at the forefront of the political and administrative battle guarantees amateur boxing will receive important consideration in view of its restructuring with the new organization. Golovkin, who currently serves as President of the World Boxing Olympic Committee, is now seeking the highest office to guide the sport’s restructuring.

 The World Boxing Council, a leading voice in boxing, has stated its unconditional support for the World Boxing initiative. “We extend our most sincere congratulations to everyone involved in World Boxing, for its tireless effort to protect the future of our sport in the (upcoming and future) Olympic Games. Seeing a legend like Gennady Golovkin join this cause in a leadership role is a powerful sign of commitment. The WBC reiterates its full support for World Boxing and its president, Boris van der Vorst, and congratulates ‘GGG’ on his brave candidacy.”

The World Boxing Council Day of the Dead belt is a special commemorative boxing championship belt created by the World Boxing Council (WBC) to celebrate Mexican culture and heritage. It is awarded to the winner of a major fight and is a tribute to the Day of the Dead tradition, a Mexican holiday that honors deceased loved ones.
