By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

The UFC better watch and step aside. Professional boxing’s new energetic big man has arrived, and he seeks to create a new professional super boxing league which could allow Saudi Arabia to dominate the sport.

His Excellency ,Turki Alalshikh, a dominating figure in the world of sports entertainment, has seen some of the best boxing matchups in recent years come across the Kingdom Arena ring stage in Riyadh.

The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) has concluded the professional boxing is beneficial to the future of their financial and sporting portfolio. negotiations are now underway, and promoters who have had their hand in Saudi Arabian boxing shows such as Queensberry Promotions, Matchroom Boxing and Golden Boy Promotions could be involved in the formation of the new boxing league. News source Reuters says the new league entity could potentially be worth between four and five billion dollars. The new league would not be limited to Saudi Arabia, with hundreds of fighters potentially signed at once, and the United States and the United Kingdom among the sites the new league would also stage future boxing cards.

Form this reporter’s viewpoint, the Saudis have scored a major victory by unifying the world heavyweight title for the first time in decades. Major heavyweight bouts have been staged. Independent promoters and independent boxing cards would not be affected worldwide, but clearly the formation of such a league would mean the world’s best elite professional boxers, like LIV Golf, would want to sign with the kingdom and make big bucks. It all has to do with promotions. With Turki Alalshikh leading the way, the biggest boxing promotions in the world have been staged in Saudi Arabia. The Saudis would essentially take over the sport of boxing. With PBC promoter Al Haymon’s influence fading on the horizon, boxing has the new catalyst and visionary in His Excellency required to bring the sport forward into 2025.

This reporter would like to see Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez versus David Benavidez or Terence Crawford in 2024 or 2025. The Saudis alone could pull it off. The big names are already flocking to Riyadh to fight, and so, the new boxing league envisioned by His Excellency would strengthen the financial future of the sport. This reporter heartily supports the new boxing league proposal. Of course, the safety of the fighters in the ring should always be the top priority of the boxing commission in charge of staging the event, Saudi Arabia or elsewhere.
