Mielnicki Stops DeLomba in 10th Round of Prudential Center PBC Fox Card
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Newark, NY (December 27th, 2021)– In the main event of a 13 bout Christmas Eve Premier Boxing Champions Fox Sportscard at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on Saturday night, December 25, 2021, welterweight prospect Vito “White Magic” Mielnicki Jr. scored a tenth round stoppage of Nicholas DeLomba.
Mielnicki, 10-1 with seven knockouts, Roseland, New Jersey, won every round against DeLomba, 16-4 with five knockouts, Kissimmee, Florida. A Mielnicki right hook seemed to have DeLomba ready to go in the third round, but he tightened up his defense and went into survival mode essentially for the remainder of the bout, though he did throw some counters. Mielnicki had superior foot movement, and had DeLomba chasing him down all night. Melnicki landed 150 punches, and 105 power shots. DeLomba landed 55 punches over 10 rounds, and 41 power shots, translating to 5.5 punches per round, not enough output to survive a prolonged ring battle as result.
A big right hand late in the tenth round staggered and hurt DeLomba, whose legs were gone and who appeared ready to go. The corner then waived it off instead of allowing the possibility of the bout going the distance. It was the first time in the 19-year-old Mielnicki’s career he had been taken into the tenth round, and he did it in front of a hometown new Jersey crowd.
Result: Vito Mielnicki TKO 10 Nicholas DeLomba, Welterweights (1:49)
Referee: Eric Dali. Corner stoppage during the tenth and final round.
On the undercard, veteran New Jersey welterweight Michael “Slick” Anderson, 22-3-1 with 16 knockouts, East Orange, New Jersey, age 41, scored a third round knockout of Noe Alejandro Lopez, 10-5-1 with four knockouts, Spring, Texas, by way of Mexico. Anderson lost a 12 rounder for the IBA World Welterweight title in 2019.
Result: Michael Anderson KO 3 Noe Alejandro Lopez, Welterweights (0:33)
Referee: Harvey Dock. Lopez down twice in third and counted out.
