There’s an old yet timeless song by the late Freddie Mercury and the group Queen, which goes “Another one bites the dust” in lyrics. Present and former world champions Manny Pacquiao, Mikey Garcia, Teofimo Lopez were beaten, and now top welterweight prospect Kudratillo Abdukakorov has been beaten by an unbeaten yet unknown Canadian prospect.
The new Canadian Rocky Balboa, Cody “The Crippler” Crowley, now 20-0 with nine knockouts, Las Vegas, Nevada, via Petersborough, Ontario, Canada, on Saturday, December 11, 2021, won an upset 10 round decision on Showtime over previously undefeated and highly regarded welterweight contender Kudratillo Abdukakhorov, now 18-1 with 10 knockouts, Kuala Lampur, Malaysia by way of Uzbekistan.
Crowley and Abdukakhorov began trading power shot bombs thunder from the opening bell at close quarters, Crowley had a 71 inch reach, nearly a four inch reach advantage over the 67 ½ inch reach of Abdukakhorov, which Crowley used to land some mega power shots and uppercuts to the head of the surprised slow footed Abdukakhorov early on. In the second round, Crowley landed a left right combination to the head of Abdukakhorov, who countered with a left to the head of Crowley which sent Crowley to the canvas off balance on the seat of his pants. Akdukakhorov celebrated prematurely.
Crowley continued using come forward pressure to score with straight overhand lefts when Abdukakhorov got caught along the ropes. Crowley cut Abdukakhorov on the left ear from a legal punch in round five. Both combatants utilized crisp hooks to the body. Crowley, looking like a bearded Conor McGregor, continued to land overhand leads and counters, looking. Crowley’s come forward pressure attack, and consistent right hooks to the body, began to wear Abdukhakhorov down in the late rounds to win on the scorecards. Crowley, a super welterweight, has only been at welterweight for his last two bouts, and appears stronger in winning 10 round decisions at welterweight in the lower weight class.
Result: Cody Crowley Win 10 Kudratillo Abdukakhorov, Welterweights. Scoring: 98-91, 97-92, 95-94 Crowley. Referee: Jerry Cantu. An off balance Crowley went down in the second round. Abdukakhorov cut on left ear by legal punch in round five.
