Poland War 3 Five on Five Man MMA Controversy: Fighter Head Punched 12 Times Unconscious
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Professional boxing now features the Triller Triad boxing triangular ring circuit, something between professional boxing and professional MMA, and heavyweights like Kubrat Pulev have fought in it. Just when you think you have seen it all, along comes Poland with “War 3” five on five-man MMA with five different Mixed Martial Arts fighters beating the daylights out of each other at the same time simultaneously in a new form of “Battle Royale” graphic violence entertainment. If Poland and Europe go for “War 3”, surely Asia, Australia, North America, South America, and especially, the United States, Canada and Mexico will soon follow with approval. As MMA rises in popularity, so then do the variations created to generate more fan following and Pay-Per-Views.
Recently, in the last weekend of November 2021, a “War 3” event in Poland descended into madness and chaos only 17 seconds into the five-on-five-person battle, when one fighter got punched in the head 12 times into unconsciousness. With a five-on-five match, the only purpose of such entertainment is for one team to remain standing. It then becomes fair game for five to beat up on one enemy to a knockout, so competitors are left with four or less team members to complete the voyage of carnage as the final battle for it all continues.
The purse stakes and betting lines can be high in high stakes events. “War 3” brings televised MMA to a whole new level. Considerable safety precautions need to be in place. Even still, when five MMA men selectively choose to beat up on one selected opponent of the enemy five, tragedy is the only possible outcome for the target.
The issue is how three referees in the ring can prevent a tragedy when multiple people are pummeling each other at the same time. All hell breaks loose inside the ring, and the MMA fighters better have insurance, because the odds in such a heated five on five battle say somebody is bound to get seriously injured or killed. What Poland has created is a modern day version of the Coliseum in Rome, where it is humans versus the lions and tigers, and warriors versus warriors to the death. Not quite that bad, but almost. It is blood entertainment in the raw, the way they like it in Europe. Perhaps it will be coming soon to a Pay-Per-View and MMA Octagon near you in 2022 or the near future. To this reporter, “War 3” is not a safety-conscious form of MMA sport. However, if the participants agree and sign waivers of liability for the payday, tickets to watch the carnage will be sold, and that’s part of the deal in watching contact sports. from boxing to soccer to football. Amen.
