More Exhibition Insanity! Magic Man Paulie Malignaggi and Riddick Bowe to Return

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Miami, FL (July 29th, 2021)– It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Iron Mike Tyson! Roy Jones Jr.! Floyd Mayweather Jr.! Evander Holyfield! Kevin McBride! Lennox Lewis! What could be weirder and more strange than the odd oddity of boxing exhibitions during the Pandemic time period already scheduled or which have taken place? Oscar De La Hoya coming back in a real sanctioned bout as a cruiserweight against an MMA fighter with sanctioned two minute rounds?

Call it a line out of Ripley’s Believe It or Not. If Joe Louis, Jack Dempsey, Alexis Arguello, Jack Johnson? Aaron Pryor, Rocky Marciano, Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson were alive, they would have make exhibition comebacks. Bob Foster? Carlos Monzon? Marvelous Marvin Hagler? Hammering Henry Armstrong? What about Thomas Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Eder Jofre, Larry Holmes or Mike Weaver! Who’s next to throw their hat into the ring? Nino Benvenuti?

The exhibition insanity road continues, with former World Heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe, 53, scheduled to fight former NBA star Lamar Odom, 41, on October 2, 2021, in Miami, Florida. Odom recently won a scrappy exhibition over pop singer Aaron Carter, but might find Bowe less of a song once the two get inside the ring and mix it. and former World Welterweight champion Paulie “Magic Man’ Malignaggi is scheduled to fight social media star Corey B on the undercard of madness. Malignaggi, who provided commentary for Odom’s exhibition win over Carter at ringside, had chalk thrown all over him by Corey B at ringside during his commentary. It isn’t as if anybody cares who wins or loses. The ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic continues to create an exhibition atmosphere aura closer to the circus freak show. Nobody is stopping the exhibitions, so the boxing freak shows will evidently continue. Like the song “Le Freak”, all this reporter can say is “Freak Out!” It is what it is. Rotten entertainment which will follow the Olympic Games in Japan. Done deal.
