Akron, Ohio (April 9th, 2020)– Bellator flyweight and featherweight Isaiah ‘The Beast’ Chapman, an amateur and professional veteran of 25 MMA bouts between 2009 and 2019, has died at age 30 after being shot multiple times outside his home in Akron, Ohio, on April 7, 2020, in an apparent homicide. The reasons before the shooting remain unknown at present.

On Wednesday, April 8, 2020, the Akron Beacon Journal reported Akron police Lt. Michael Miller stated officers responded to a call of shots being fired at 9:40 p.m. local time the previous evening. When they arrived on the scene, they found a 30-year-old man in the street with gunshot wounds. The man was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The suspect remains at large, and the victim was not immediately identified. However, a person close to Chapman told MMA Junkie the next day Chapman was the victim in the shooting. The death was confirmed on Chapman’s Facebook page.

Chapman posted an 11-1 amateur record and a 9-4 professional record in MMA competition. He debuted on November 25, 2009, with a first round rear choke submission amateur win over Cagney Springer in Cage Fight 8 in Liverpool, Ohio. His final professional bout was on October 26, 2019, where Chapman scored a first round kneebar submission over Patrick Mix at Bellator 232 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. All MMA competitions are currently suspended due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.
