Brad Foster vs. Lucien Reid, 12 rounds, for Foster’s British junior featherweight title
Undefeated former elite amateur Lucien Reid is eager to make an example of Brad Foster on his way to a first professional title on September 14.
‘Lethal’ (8-0-1, 4 KOs) challenges Brad Foster for the British and Commonwealth super-bantamweight crowns at York Hall on the Queensberry Promotions show – live on BT Sport – and is full of optimism.
Reid, who is now trained by Al Smith, told Queensberry Promotions: “I’ve been calling for a title fight for years because not being funny; with my amateur background, I’ve done everything and boxed all different styles. I know what I’m capable of.
“I think I’ve been too much of a risk for a champion to face me – and not much reward. Especially if they’re not with Frank Warren. Why would they take a fight knowing they’re going to lose?
“I want titles as I have a boy who’s six now and he doesn’t care about me winning fights – he just wants me to have belts. I want to be one of those Dads who can show off to him!”
Having overcome a nasty cut that forced a frustrating draw with Indi Sangha at the Albert Hall last time out, Reid is in no doubt he’ll making up for lost time on a bill topped by MTK Global team-mate Sunny Edwards.
Reid added: “To be honest, fighting journeyman-type fighters left me not getting up for it so I was happy to fight someone with a good record like Indi Sangha.
“It was annoying (the cut) and at the time I was devastated, obviously. I was into my flow and feeling good – but now it looks like a blessing in disguise because look what has come from it.
“I’m hoping Brad Foster looked at that fight and thought: ‘This will be easy.’ That wasn’t how I box normally and everything is changing.”
