After being cleared of a 2018 Georgia case where a woman had claimed he groped her inside of a shopping mall, Adrien ‘The Cure’ Broner, fresh off a 12 round decision loss to Manny Pacquiao, is back in the news again, after threatening to both knock out and shoot gay people in the face in a homophobic new Instagram rant now circulating on social media. A temporary court restraining order has been issued against Broner, and the temporary restraining order will be revisited by the courts on April 1, 2019.
In addition, Broner must stay 500 feet away from social media star Andrew C. Caldwell, and both parties must avoid social media contact, after Broner stated he would “punch the testosterone out of Caldwell.” In court documents, Caldwell stated Broner flirted with him, prompting the controversial homophobic hate response below from the former multiple division world boxing champion. However, Broner said the entire incident didn’t start with him. Rather, according to Broner, it was in fact Caldwell initiated the unwanted contact.
“If any f*#king punk ass (gay) n*gga come run up on me, trying to touch me on all that gay sh*t, I’m letting you know right now, if I ain’t got my gun on me, I’m knocking you the f*#k out,” Broner stated. “If I’ve got my gun on me, I’m shooting you (gay people) in the f**king face. That’s on God. I ain’t playing with none of these n*ggas. I don’t want that gay sh*t (around).”
No ‘cure’ may be in sight now, in terms of Broner looking for his next fight in the ring.
Broner has created media controversy before, but by now openly and antagonistically attracting the ire and hatred of the Gay and Lesbian worldwide community, Broner has inadvertently caused the spark of unwanted negative publicity onto the boxing community it may not be able to make go away in the near future. A four divisional champion, Broner may fight the going rough with promoters at this point in his up and down career, if public pressure to avoid giving Broner fights results from the controversy, and no apology by Broner is offered. Given the foul nature of Broner’s controversial remarks, and Broner’s off again on again legal troubles, forgiveness may be unlikely. Some boxing fans say Broner may just be making another attempt to generate publicity to sell tickets to his next bout.
