VASYL LOMACHENKO MAKES NICHOLAS WALTERS QUIT, VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS AND HBO POST FIGHT REACTION VIDEOS

Las Vegas, NV (November 27th, 2016)– In the main event Vasyl Lomachenko made Nicholas Walters quit in his corner. The fight started a bit slow, both fighters were getting a feel for each other. As it got later in the rounds the two got more comfortable. The big difference maker in the fight was suppose to be Walters strength but it looked like he was never able to get a clean shot on Lomachenko to hurt him. It wasn’t until the seventh round where we saw Lomachenko release his full arsenal on Walters. Walters was hurt a couple times in the seventh round and it didn’t help that he couldn’t land on Lomachenko. After the seventh round was over Walters went to his corner and quit. To many this fight was a test to see how good Lomachenko is and certainly passed that test. Many thought that because Lomachenko had problems with Salido that he would also have problems with Walters.
So what’s next for Lomachenko? It looks like he wants to go after Francisco Vargas which is the WBC champion at 130 lbs. Trainer Robert Garcia says he wouldn’t be against a fight between against a fight between Lomachenko vs Mikey Garcia. There has also been rumors about a Lomachenko vs Manny Pacquiao fight. If those fights don’t happen there is enough talent at the weight where he is now to keep him busy. I don’t think it will be long before Lomachenko makes his way up to number one on the pound for pound list.
In the co-main event Konstantin Ponomarev beat Silverio Ortiz by unanimous decision. Ortiz has a horrible record of 35 wins and 15 losses making it look like he was just put in the ring with Ponomarev to make him look good. In the first round Ortiz gave a competitive fight but every round after that it looked like he was trying to survive. There was several times in the eight round fight where Ortiz was hurt bad but he was able to slip away before the referee had a chance to stop it. Ponomarev is trained Abel Sanchez who also trains Gennady Golovkin. Ponomarev fights at 154 lbs therefore he would have to fight vigorous competition like Saul Canelo Álvarez, Jermell Charlo, Jermall Charlo, or Erislandy Lara to become champion.
In the first fight of the night prospect Trevor McCumby took on Donovan George. The fight ended shortly after the first bell was rang. George was knocked down in the first round and after getting up he was hit with several unanswered punches. Shortly after those unanswered punches the referee stopped the fight. McCumby is still undefeated with 24 wins, 19 of those fights ending by knockout; this begs the question when will McCumby be in line for a title fight? In the post fight interview McCumby said he will be going down to 168 lbs. Meaning if McCumby wants to be Champion he will fight with one of the following: Gilberto Ramirez, James DeGale, Tyron Zeuge, or Badou Jack. If McCumby stays at light heavyweight he will have to fight either Andre Ward or Adonis Stevenson if he wants to be champion. Regardless of which of the two weight classes he picks he will have to face fierce competition.
