Victor Pappa, The Fighting Greek, Dies at Age 59

Victor Pappa, the popular Pennsylvania super welterweight contender known as ‘The Fighting Greek’, died at age 59 on August 12, 2016, in his native Upper Darby, Pennsylvannia. Pappa fought all but one of his bouts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, McAfee, New Jersey, and Atlantic City, New Jersey. The Blue Horizon in Philly, Miami Beach, Florida, and The Playboy Club in McAfee were among Pappa’s destinations

 

Pappa had a professional record of 22-3 with 15 knockouts between 1977 and 1993. Pappa had a professional record 20-3, but retired in December 1982 without ever having fought in a world title bout. He returned a decade later in 1993, winning two comeback bouts, before retiring for good.
