ROY JONES TEARS BICEP IN DECISION WIN AND ADMITS CAREER COULD BE OVER
Pensacola, FL (August 14th, 2016)– Former four division world champion Roy Jones Jr. (64-9, 46 KOs) suffered a serious injury where he tore his bicep over during an unanimous decision over journeyman, Rodney Moore (17- 12-2, 7 KOs). All three judges had it 100-90 with very little action during the fight.
At 47-years-old, an extended recovery period for the injured bicep could be the end for Jones’ boxing career – and he admits that could very well be the case. “It may have been the last one,” said Jones to the Pensacola Journal. “And I’m not mad if it is, because I had a great time. Everybody in Pensacola got to see Roy Öght one more time. I knew it might be close to the end.” “We’ll just have to see how long this takes to heal. It was the best condition I’ve been in a long time. I felt strong the whole time. Thank God it was the right hand, because I could use the left hand triple time. Because you use it for your jab and that’s the point-getter, If it’s the left hand, now you’ve got problems. Because you have bring your shoulder from way back here and makes it harder for you to get back (and leaves a boxer exposed to a counter punch).”
Roy Jones lost by a devastating knockout to now retired former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli last December. However against very limited competition, Jones has won 10 of his last 11 fights. Jones has been stopped 5 times in his career.
