Mexico City, Mexico (February 7th, 2015)– The Governor praises “The Guvner!”- at the unveiling of the statue of Julio Cesar Chavez in Culican, Sinaloa State Mario Lopez Valdez has dubbed him as the Champion of Champions and a man who’s overcome all adversity.

Thousands upon thousands of people croweded into Revolution Park in Culican to glimpse their hero and for the unveiling of the statue, which is all the bigger, because its on an elevated plinth. For the actual ceremony itself, Julio stood hand in hand with his Mother Isabel and proudly side by side with Don King, who promoted so many of his dramatic , thrilling and enthralling fights.

Governor Lopez Valdez who made his way through the massive throng shaking hands and greeting people., then took time out to tell the WBC: “There are men who leave their mark. Julio Cesar is an emblematic man. He was born in Sonora, but he grew up here. He’s overcome and triumphed in the great battles of life and he’ll forever be a great Champion.

“For us, Julio is a source of great pride. He’s in the Hall of fame, but he’s also here in the heart of a special sporting place here in Culican.

“For us Julio has sensivity, he’s humble, and he’s overcome adversity to rise up to the heights.”
