New York, NY ( April 1st, 2014)– Promoters Felipe Gomez and Kevin O’Sullivan of New Legend Boxing will present an exciting 10 bout professional boxing card entitled ‘International Fight Night’ at Resorts World Casino Aqueduct in Jamaica Queens, New York, on Saturday night, April 4, 2014. The scheduled 10 round main event between bantamweights Juan ‘Baby Tito’ Dominguez, 16-0, 11 knockouts, a Dominican fighting out of Brooklyn, New York, and 77 bout veteran German ‘Pantanero’ Meraz, 46-30-1 with 25 knockouts, Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico, was cancelled yesterday as Dominguez came down with the flu. “He was out all last week, and he (Dominguez) is still not (feeling anywhere near) 100 percent,”explained promoter Felipe Gomez of the late decision to postpone Dominguez’ bout for reasons of health. The recent weather spell of cold, snow, wind and rain has affected many in the New York City area.
In the featured eight round main event, hard-working light middleweight prospect Frank Galarza is favored to win by decision over Dominican southpaw trial horse Franklin Gonzalez, 16-12 with 10 knockouts. Gonzalez has fought such names as Glen Tapia, Ionut Dan Ion, Sadam Ali, Luis Collazo, David Estrada, Dmitriy Salita, Antwone Smith and Danny O’Connor. Gonzalez is coming off a win over Franklin Frias in Santo Domingo, but has not fought for over a year, and is a sneaky fighter if he shows up sharp.
Galarza, 12-0-2 with eight knockouts, Brooklyn, New York, will outwork Gonzalez. The length of the fight will be determined by how much work Gonzalez has done. Gonzalez knows how to jab, and knows how to hold. If Galarza works his way inside, Gonzalez, who is the shorter fighter, will probably wind up getting on his bicycle, and trying to hold on survival mode to go the distance. Frank can drop him and stop him if his work rate is consistent, and if Galarza can cut off the ring, the bout will end within five or six rounds.
In the interesting co-featured eight round bout, rising super flyweight prospect Rafael Vazquez, 10-1, will needs a few rounds to knock out southpaw challenger Manuel De Los Reyes Herrera, 21-12-1 with 15 knockouts, Planeta Rica, Columbia. Dominguez knocked out Herrera at Resorts World Casino in May 2013 in the third round. Vazquez should stop Herrera within four rounds as Vazquez is too strong for most bantamweights at this point. Fighting below super featherweight, Vazquez has speed, power and great instincts-all the features required to become a world champion. His appearance is deceiving, Rafael does not start fast, but comes on stronger in later rounds. Vazquez is extremely dangerous in any round, as evidenced by his late round come from behind knockout over Leon Moore.
Also appearing on the cards: welterweights Rajiv Bhattacharya and Maurice Chalmers in an eight rounder; welterweights Rich Neves and Antonio Fernandez in a six rounder; debuting middleweight Timothy McDermott in a four rounder; unbeaten super middleweights Devaun Lee and Josue Valdez in a four rounder; cruiserweights Jay Rodriguez and Jose Torres in a four rounder; light middleweights Gary Beriguette and Mack Babb in a four rounder and super bantamweight Claude Staten Jr. in a four rounder.
