New York, NY (August 5th, 2013)– Lou Bella’s DBE DiBella Entertainment and Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson’s SMS Promotions will present at exciting ten bout card of boxing on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at BB King Blues Club & Grill in New York City. The main event will feature an exciting eight round heavyweight main event bout between Tor Hamer, 20-2, 13 knockouts, New York City, versus Trinidad & Tobago heavyweight champion Kerston ‘ Warrior’ Manswell, 23-7, 17 knockouts, Marabella, Trinidad and Tobago. Hamer is heavily favored to win on his home territory over Manswell, who will be fighting for the first time in New York City.

Hamer, 30 years old, 6’2”, fights at 221 to 233 pounds. Tor will be more mobile against the heavier and more flat footed Manswell, who won his first 20 professional bouts, but has lost seven of his last ten bouts against higher level opposition fighting at a beefy 252 to 262 pounds in the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany.

Hamer is a hard hitter, and tends to be highly accurate at close round with extreme power. Hamer should stop or knock out Manswell between rounds four and seven once he begins connecting with power shots to the head and body.  Manswell will fall. The only question by this reporter, who has covered all of Tor Hamer’s bouts at BB King, is what round Manswell will fall.

Mobility will be the key to this victor by Hamer, as he has negotiated the ring at BB King Blues Club & Grill successfully nine times against Joseph Rabotte (his debut), Clarence Tillman, Mazur Ali, Alexia Mejias, Terrell Nelson, Demitrice King, and Dieuly Aristilde and Mauricio Smith. Hamer knows this ring well, and will use it to keen advantage, cutting off the ring and applying pressure, and counterpunching with speed against a slower opponent he knows will eventually fall. Manswell’s best chance of survival will be to hold Hamer at every opportunity, a strategy Manswell used against Cedric Boswell for all ten rounds of their June 2011 bout. Manswell lost every round. Manswell has not won a bout on the mainland United States in five years, and his most recent three wins in 2011 in his native Port-of-Spain, were against inferior opposition, making his chin highly suspect.

The only thing Manswell has going for him which Hamer’s corner might be concerned with is Manswell’s quality of opposition, which, although Manswell has lost his important fights, of a higher quality of opposition than Hamer’s. Manswell has lost to Bermane Stiverne, Mike Perez, Cedric Boswell, Ruslan Chagaev, Alexander Ustinov, Deontay Wilder and Skipp Scott, ‘A’ level fighters with a combined 166 wins at the time he fought them. This might buy Manswell a few rounds if Hamer boxes the first few rounds a bit more conservatively than usual, but Manswell should still fall after Hamer picks him apart.

On the undercard, local favorite southpaw light middleweight Boyd Melson of White Plains, New York, takes on potential spoiler Jason Thompson of New York City in an eight round rematch, the preliminary to the main event. The stubborn Thompson has earned three draws in his last six bouts, including against rising Melson, and unbeaten rising prospects Frank Galarza and Marcus Willis, and the rematch promises to be an extremely exciting bout. Melson is a hard hitter from the outside. Thompson has learned to neutralize his opponent’s power and frustrate them to a great extent by taking the fight inside and turning it into a close range short punch war. Melson is predicted to win by a majority decision over eight rounds, with perhaps a knockdown or two, but the bout could be close.

Popular female heavyweight Sonya ‘The Scholar’ Lamonakis, 38, 7-1-2 with one knockout, New York City by way of Greece, ranked third in the world on BoxRec but coming off a six round decision loss to BoxRec number one ranked Martha Salazar of San Francisco, California, will face 1-1 Tara Pennell of Irving, Texas, the BoxRec number seven worldwide contender, in a six rounder (two minute rounds). Lamonakis is favored by six round decision over Pennell.

In other preliminary four and six round bouts: lightweight southpaw Amos ‘2 Smooth’ Coward, 7-0, five knockouts, Groveland, Florida, faces 6-3 Chazz McDowell of Yonkers; 16-0-1 super middleweight contender Lennox ‘2 Sharpe’ Allen of Guyana; 4-0 light middleweight prospect Patrick Day of New York City; 4-0 light welterweight Luis Olivares; 2-0 light welterweight Shemuel Pagan; 5-0 super featherweight Neuky Santelises; and light welterweight Donte Strayhorn versus Justin Robbins.

The fight will take place at BB King Blues Club & Grill at Times Square 237 West 42nd Street in New York City on Wednesday, August 14, 2013. Doors open at 6 PM. First bout 7 PM. Tickets are $100 for a table of five, $ 500 for a table of five, $ 125 ringside, and $75 for individual tickets.
