Heavyweight Travis Kauffman Defeats Lyons in The Main Event at Valley Forge

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

For a split second, you might think a Roman gladiator had defeated the lions in a competition throwback to the days of The Colesseum in Rome, a sporting arena completed after a ten year construction project by the Roman Emperor Vespasian in 80 A.D.

In reality, world ranked heavyweight Travis Kauffman, now 25-1, with 18 knockouts, Reading, Pennsylvania, defeated a different ‘lion’ in Aaron Lyons, now 12-13-1, Gulfport, Mississippi, in the main event of a five bout card promoted by Marshall Kauffman’s King’s Promotions at Valley Forge Casino & Resort, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. As is the case in many of these backwoods country bouts in the sticks, the scoring often leaves much to be desired. Kauffman dominated the bout over the fading Lyons, and appeared to win every round, with one judge giving him all eight rounds at 80-72, and another judge giving him six of eight rounds for 78-74. Strangely, the third judge had it five rounds to three for Kauffman at 77-75. Lyons is now 3-10-1 in his last 14 bouts. Lyons beat Joey Abell early in his career, but later lost a rematch to Abell. Lyons also holds two wins over 355 pounds Gabe Brown, AKA ‘The Human Hamburger’. Kauffman, featured in an interview with Real Combat Media earlier this year, has now won seven in a row since losing to Tony Grano in 2009, and it appears Travis’ once promising career is back on the right track.
