Promoter 50 Cent Denies Charges, ESPN2 Boxing Card To Go On As Scheduled

Los Angeles, CA (July 5th, 2013)–A well known boxing promoter in the Northeastern United States, who prefers not be identified by name, had this to say about the Wednesday arrest in Los Angeles, California, of rapper and wannabe professional boxing promoter 50 Cent, on the eve before the weigh in for his first boxing card on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights: “You can take the boy out of the hood, but you can’t take the hood out of the boy.”
The ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes (Spanish telecast) of the ESPN’s Friday Night Fights July 5, 2013 boxing card presented by rapper and boxing promoter 50 Cent at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, Connecticut, will go on as scheduled. A private ticket birthday party for 50 Cent at the Convention Center will also follow the card. 50 Cent was alleged Wednesday evening to have assaulted his girlfriend of three years, model Daphne Joy (rumored to be the mother of a baby with 50 Cent, born last fall) and ransacking her residence.
The Hartford boxing card will be the first boxing event for new promoter 50 Cent. The issuance of his promoter’s license overlooks his dark past. 50 Cent survived nine gunshots in an attempted assassination. He is the author of the book ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin’, an autobiographical account of his life as a drug dealer. The nature of his troubled past has evidently spilled over into the success of his ‘present’ life.
The 37 year old rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, was charged with domestic violence and four counts of vandalism after allegedly assaulting Ms. Joy in her residence in Toluca Lake, California, on June 23, 2013, a neighborhood 12 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. 50 Cent will be arraigned July 22. In denying the charges, a lawyer for 50 Cent claims there are no arrest warrants outstanding against 50 Cent on the domestic violence and vandalism charges pending.
According to the police report, 50 Cent kicked down a locked bedroom door his girlfriend was behind and committed assault after ransacking the apartment.
In addition to being accused by Ms. Joy of kicking her, 50 Cent allegedly destroyed Ms. Joy’s condominium to the tune of over $7000 damage to the property. If convicted, 50 Cent faces five years in prison and a $46,000 fine. Condominium damage included broken chandeliers, furniture, a television, and scattered clothes.
Nine fights are scheduled on the ESPN2 card, which features 50 Cent featherweight fighter Billy Dib in the 10 round main event versus Mike Oliver. If convicted, the boxing promoter’s license of 50 Cent would be revoked. Theoretically the ESPN2 show will go out, but ticketholders for the 50 Cent birthday bash scheduled to follow the card at the Connecticut Convention Center will probably demand refunds as 50 Cent is unable to appear at his own birthday party by virtue of his arrest.
